DD 12 does basketball and rec soccer although soccer is almost done. She says one of her knees hurts when she runs and subsides shortly after she’s done playing.
Soccer coach told her it’s because she’s growing and she needs more blood flow to the knee so she needs a knee compressor. This is her wording to me. Has anyone heard of this? Not sure if I should take to doc or just try this compressor thing I’ve never heard of. |
| Look up Osgood-Schlatter knee pain. |
|
Knee pain can be common when growing. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21171-osgood-schlatter-disease
But you should have DC be seen by a doc to confirm. |

It might be jumper's knee, depending on where the pain is.
I would definitely go get it diagnosed and take her to physical therapist. They'll give her exercises to do at home. Most likely hip strengthening, IT band stretching, and hamstring stretching! |

My daughter had ankle pain last year doing both soccer and cross country. It went away when fall sports stopped.
Not being a medical practitioner, it’s probably a combination of growing, not enough stretching and overuse. Easiest solution is to dial back on the sports temporarily. Probably three sports was just too much. Sounds like problem will solve itself in a week or so when soccer ends but just be careful and make sure she doesn’t overdo it in the meantime. |
This. My cheerleader daughter, age 13 has this. |
| My son had foot pain while running and finally agreed to use inserts. It’s made a huge difference. Got them fitted in running store. |
| Take her to a PT or sports medicine doctor. Could be growth. Could be her ACL. Could be anything in between. She needs a pro to look at her. |
| I had ACL surgery the summer before 9th grade. |
| This is pretty common. You can certainly mention it to the doctor. |
Both my soccer- and basketball-playing son, and my competitive gymnast daughter had this around this age. |
My 14 year old basketball player was diagnosed with this by his coach, who is also a physical therapist. |
100% this. Could be hundreds of things. My son has knee and hip pain and it turns out to be hip impingement from the way his hip is built. You will never know until you see a sports orthopedist. |
| She might have a pronated foot and need shoe inserts. |
You can stretch all you want but it won't help. It's growth related and due to overuse during this period of time. |
