| What is your favorite frosting to use when making an angel food cake? It’s for a birthday and whipped cream/fruit has been ruled out. The birthday child wants it frosted. Buttercream seems too heavy. Any ideas? |

I don't think I've ever seen angel food cake frosted!
Does the birthday child have a preference? Vanilla seems like it would be very bland. Chocolate might be nice. If you get store-bought and stir it until it's fluffy, I think that would work. |
| Blasphemy |
| None. The most you'd have is a fruit drizzle or glaze, after the cake is cut and served. |
| Can you do choc whipped cream? Tell kid it’s choc frosting. |
| How old is the kid? Do they actually know the difference between angel food cake and sponge cake? |
| You don't frost angel food cake. Serve with berries. |
| NONE. Ew, David. |

Our family growing up always did angel food cake with chocolate whipped cream frosting.
So not technically just "whipped cream" because it's chocolate!!

| For a child’s birthday? Whatever they want. Just have a second unfrosted cake on the side for adults who don’t want to eat that tomfoolery. |
| Whipped chocolate or a buttercream frosting. |

You could do a chocolate ganache, or a whipped chocolate ganache. If straight chocolate ganache make it a little more liquid-y so it's softer, something slightly closer to a glaze?
Why do they want an angel food cake? This seems like a weird mishmash of "The cake must be a heathy(ish) choice!" + "but I'm a kid and I want frosting!" You could sort of think trifle without trifle - cut in half and put a custard in the middle? |
I'd change the type of cake. Angel food cake doesn't typically have frosting and frosting kind of defeats the purpose of the lower-sugar/fat angel food cake. |

As pps have said, angel food cake isn't typically frosted. But kids like frosting on their cakes, so maybe try an ermine frosting?
https://sugargeekshow.com/recipe/ermine-frosting/ Super light, not too sweet, not heavy enough to weigh down the lightness of an angel food cake. |
