All these magazines can suggest a ranking on their agenda.
However the actual ranking is determined by the actual people.
We actually get the result every year by how people regard and choose schools.

It's determined by acceptance rate + yield rate + Student caliber.

A magazine ranking can suggest school A is ranked higher than school B.
That's just a suggestion and a reference. It's one of the many factors people consider.

At the end of the day if high stat kids choose school B over school A, that's the actual ranking.
In realty schools B is ranked higher than school A.
That ranking is worth the most to check out as that's the real ranking by the people.

VA Tech > UVA

FYI it uses fed data, which doesn't have all universities. It doesn't have UMD.

Ridiculous. There are a gazillion variables that go into any kids choice of college. If a kid chooses school B because it's easier to get to from where she lives, that doesn't make it a better school than school A.

This is weeks old news and there was already a length thread on the topic last month.

Location is a factor among many many things including cost and etc. et., and those are all accounted for by every student.
It's not an exact science but the best measure. and at least better than a random magazine as it's a real ranking by actual people.

hardly. Chicago does massive yield and acceptance rate manipulation via waitlists and early decision.

A completely faulty metric. Focus on student outcomes. That's what matters.

Was responding to PP saying acceptance rate plus yield and student stats is what matters.

Super high-stat kids choosing Chicago as their #1 pick and attending means a lot and contributes to its high ranking. I agree that outcomes are probably one of the most important factors, and applicants certainly consider that. It is accounted for in the ultimate choices made by applicants.
