Any helpful volleyball intel on 15s thru 18s team in run up to try outs?

Anonymous
With this upcoming weekend being the final weekend of open clinics before 15s thru 18s tryouts next week -- any helpful intel to share for people with daughters on the hunt for a new club or team this coming club volleyball season? For example -- any teams aggressively looking to fill certain positions? It can be challenging to move around on older teams (i.e., 17s and 18s)

Thanks for posting this. We have a player very much hoping to get out of her current club. DS/L. Northern VA. Not top level and not beginner.

If I had any intel, I wouldn't share it here!

okay . . this actually did make me laugh out loud . . and also be sad. It's definitely rough out here in these volleyball streets these days.

Of course you would not share the intel that directly affects your DD's position. However, I don't see any harm in sharing information that does not affect your DD's position. For example, if a team needs another setter (either because the current setter is likely to leave for a better team or the current setter sucks), that's something you may be willing to share.

Sorry - no specific intel but I would say to keep an eye out for make-up tryouts for 18s teams. A somewhat common thing that happens is for a player who doesn't intend to play in college to decide at the last minute that they don't want to commit to playing club their senior year meaning a spot that a club thought they had filled is suddenly available.

Seriously! PP - we obviously knew you would not share about your own kid’s position.

Is ECP DC coming back this season?

Because their webpage says "teams coming soon" https://ecpowerchesapeake.com/dc-teams/

SportsEngine shows ECP DC Teams 13-18 registered in 2025 MLK Kickoff, Charm City, JVA Summerfest

But I can't find any DC area tryout dates/times/locations? Maybe you have to tryout in Deleware?

We are on their mailing list but I haven't gotten anything. Admittedly I'm trying to play catch up last minute here and have some sort of tryout plan for my kid.

great question! I have been hearing whispers among the natives . . . but have yet to spot any hard evidence.

Check websites regularly for updates. Maryland Juniors has their practice schedules up. I noticed some of the teams have 4-6 pm practices, whereas I was envisioning practices to be 8-10 pm. The posting of times may allow some to consider MDJRs who would otherwise think it is too far of a hike or too late of a night for their kids.

Not really juicy intel, but East Coast Elite's Tryout Online registration closes tomorrow at 11:59 pm EST. Do clubs usually have a closing date for registrations? Maybe I haven't been reading the club tryout info pages, but I didn't realize some might have a closing date.

It says here that DC tryout dates for 24-25 are coming soon. https://ecpowerchesapeake.com/dc-tryouts/ I haven't heard of this club before. Does anyone know where they practice?

Actually, that is helpful! I’ve been putting off registering. Better check…

That's impressive AES sleuthing. I wonder whether they have recruited former ECP coaches from the Renaissance Chesapeake collapse? It's getting pretty late to not have tryouts scheduled though. Maybe they registered for tournaments hoping they'd be able to pull something together but haven't been able to make it happen.
