| Any guesses who the new principal will be? |
| Why will there be a new principal? |

Dear Quince Orchard Students, Staff, and Families,
Please see the attached letter. It is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement as principal of Quince Orchard High School, effective January 1, 2025, with my last day being December 4, 2024. Serving this incredible school has been the greatest honor of my career, and I am immensely proud of the work we've accomplished together to create an anti-bias, anti-racist learning community. I am forever grateful to our students for their resilience and spirit, and to the community for your unwavering support of our shared mission. Though this decision was difficult, I know Quince Orchard is in great hands, and I will always carry my Cougar Pride with me. All the best, Elizabeth (Beth) Thomas |
| Why is she leaving mid year? |
| Do you blame her for leaving?? |
Probably received a better job offer, somewhere else. |
Sometimes it's what you don't say. Gaithersburg and Bethesda principals letters mentioned new opportunities. This one doesn't or leaving to spend time with family, etc. This one was pretty terse. |
Good point—that can be true. But the stated reason can be misleading. I know of one who was removed from the school but they stated they were changing positions due to your generic, different reason altogether. Another did not state a reason and what they did was accept a higher paying position at a different district. Could be many things. In this case, it is eyebrow raising for her to quit mid-year. |
Possibly Edith Lee, a former QO AP who is now a principal intern. |
That would be the worst possible outcome. She was a disaster when she was there as an admin. |
This was my question. |
| Her letter seems to be written with AI and is very limited compared to other principals’ letters who announced their retirements last school year. |
|
Perhaps coincidentally, a man on the NextDoor app posted a complaint about her from when she was in charge of one of the since-shuttered special needs schools.
It made me think of how teachers and admins are also vulnerable to the pressure of social media. As more amd more former students leave the school and grow up, I bet you will start to hear more stories of bad behaviors and slights that happened in school I'm sure that had little if anything to do with her decision but I'm sure it didn't help if she was leaning towards leaving anyway. |
Might be when she is eligible for retirement. Our retirement dates don't necessarily match the end of the school year. |
I thought eligibility was at 30 years? She has 32 |
