| Dd is applying mostly in our state and will likely go in state, but one of the only other locations she wants is California. Right now she has University of San Francisco and University of San Diego. If you were to add a third and fourth location, what would you add? the UC schools are out due to no merit/high OOS tuitions. Do any of the Cal States stand out to you specifically, or other suggestions? Very good student but not Stanford, Pomona level exceptional for acceptance. |

We are in the Pacific NW and the usual adds for strong but not crazy standout kids who want CA but don’t have big budgets have been listed- USD, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO.
Kids often apply to UCSB and UCSB but never matriculate because both campuses have tough housing situations. |

I would put the top 5 here. Of course SJSU if looking to get into the Valley after. The top schools in the CSU system are very difficult to get into OOS. They are filling up with top students that missed the UC cut or did not get into one of the UC's they wanted. Additionally, because of the demand they tend to be regionally focused and for good reason, they're here to support us Californians, especially the local communities that are working and trying to get a degree.

For Cal State, Cal Poly SLO is the nicest but hard to get into.
Scripps has a small but beautiful campus. It is also part of the Claremont consortium, which is a big plus. |

| The Cal States are really commuter schools. You could probably get aid from the small Christian schools (Azusa Pacific, Biola, Westmont in Santa Barbara). You could also look at University of the Pacfic, Redlands, and other privates though their locations aren’t as desirable. |
