Are less teens identifying as Trans now?

Anonymous
I teach middle school and this is the first year in close to the past 10 years that I don’t have any students requesting to go by a pronoun or name that doesn’t align with their biological sex. Other teachers at my school have said the same thing. Is this part of an overall trend or just a fluke at my school?

Less are open about it due to bullying

Interesting. There were SO many in our district when the kids came back after COVID. I have heard of fewer kids this year.

You are a teacher and used less to describe humans? It's fewer, you are describing humans.

Yes, fewer kids are trans now.

Does it matter to you, as a teacher, and fellow human?

I think more are just using regular pronouns and recognizing gender and sexuality are on a spectrum (which is good in my book). Not a teacher, but a parent observing this. My kids are in middle and high school. Also one twin who born female was identifying as trans and had changed name and pronouns is now back to their cisgender and is feminine in presentation. In that case the parents were supportive and it seems the kid just went through a phase.

As a fellow human, yes.

I think so. Both my kids (girls) went through this phase and I have heard a lot less about it at present.

I do believe there are trans kids BUT I also believe much of it was a fad. My stepdaughter went by they/them for about 18 months in middle school and has now gone back to being a girl. Same with a family friend - their daughter went by he/him and used a boy’s name, but is now one of the girliest high schoolers you’ll ever meet.

I think it’s pretty common for there to be various “not like other girls” trends for girls, and this was just one of them. Goth, emo/scene, anime, etc.

Girls are realizing tomboys aren’t actually boys.

Yes, that jumped out at me immediately.

Pretty disheartening that this is a person who teaches kids.

Definitely still peaking in CA but I think kids are finally realizing they don't have to commit/make choices like this at such young ages and can just live life/ address this as they get older if they are feeling the same way.

Bingo. Good thing they didn’t irreparably alter their bodies during that “fad.”

Why would there be more bullying about it now?
