Do Taupe Handbags make your outfit frumpier?

Anonymous
Honestly, I never considered this but could this be the reason why my outfits are falling flat?

I absolutely love taupe handbags. I would buy taupe over black, brown, any color.

But would you say it ages the outfit you pair your handbag with? Is taupe out of style?

I feel like I am still seeing taupe everywhere and have for the past 2 or so years. Not sure it's still officially stylish but it's a lot more popular than it was during the everything-cool-gray 2010s.

No.

Try a taupe suede bag to be more “in”
Can you post an example of what you carry?

Taupe is nice, chocolate brown seems more dated to me (70s) though I love it.
Usually it’s hardware that makes the difference.

We believe you. You don’t have to say honestly.

I think it’s your outfit or bag style, not the bag color.

Muted colors give off calm-to-tired vibes, OP.

Always. Not just taupe. De-saturating any color will have that effect. So people will tend to read them in the low-energy spectrum. It also depends on YOUR energy, as well as the rest of your outfit. If you tend to have a quiet personality, and you walk around dressed in muted tones... you're basically going to be invisible. If you're perkier, or you pair a quiet taupe bag with an outfit anchored by a more vibrant piece... then the effect is more balanced.

People often don't think about how their entire look and behavior (clothes, walk, posture, smile, eye contact), before any sort of greeting is given, already pegs them into an unconscious category in the eyes of others. Humans are just extremely visual. It pays off to remember that, instead of buying whatever looks good in the store or on the website. The models they're on might not have your coloring, and they're wearing carefully curated outfits that you don't necessarily own.

One of my newest is the Demellier Vancouver in taupe

I also own a taupe Celine belt bag:

And a Polene Numero Un:

My most carried bags are these three. I am drawn to this type of shade. I have a few others as well that I carry less often. I’d love to get into black or another shade. I wear a lot of gray and olive green, I shop at Uniqlo, Everlane, Nordstrom pretty frequently.

^ also there are outfits for every occasion.

Maybe you don't want to channel cozycore (ex: cream oversize Aran sweater, muted leggings, shearling footwear) when you're trying to sell a project to your boss. But that same outfit looks great on Pinterest, with a mug of hot choc.

This is extremely good to know. Thank you PP! I shared a little right below your post about my typical shades that I wear. I am introverted and quieter as well.

I definitely associate that color with my late grandma, who never wore sneakers or jeans and hairsprayed her hair into a helmet shape each morning. Because she had a light taupe purse for spring-summer and a darker taupe one for fall-winter.

These all have a very grandma vibe, as does taupe in general.

meh. I think taupe or beige bags go with everything, and are "classier" than most bags I see out there. Hate all the hardware, bling, shine, labels, on bags. So over the top, low brow. It screams.."look at me".
