Trump tariffs: ruin U.S. economy until 2040

Anonymous
Lot of talk that Trump’s policies will be good for the economy.

Interesting paper here that runs the numbers.

It’s not good.

Be interested for a Trump voter to provide detail on how the Trump policy will improve our economy.

“We find that these steps would result in lower US national income, lower employment, and higher inflation than otherwise. In some cases, economic conditions recover over time, but in others the damage continues through 2040.

And despite Trump’s “America first” rhetoric, these policies would harm the US economy more than any other in the world, particularly trade-exposed sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture. In some cases, other countries would enjoy stronger economic growth than otherwise after receiving inflows of capital leaving the United States.”

There’s just no world in which Trump was or would ever be better for the economy, and every time someone says so I understand that they think much like a child does - simplistically and repeating whatever they’ve been told.

Trump (and, honestly, probably Vance because it’s not like Donald is in good health) would be gangbusters for billionaires and corporations, but the rest of us would be buried in crap.

We already saw Donald crash the economy once due entirely to his own mistakes and the resulting pandemic. Before that we saw him cripple multiple industries with tariffs, and low information people think it would be better the second go round?

No, the person who wrote the paper is lying. Only what Trump says is true. This is how it works now.

Only for right wingers deep in the cult.

There is literally no one who knows what they are talking about who suggests that Trump's policies will be good for the economy. None.

It doesn’t matter to his voters. The GOP has made it so anyone with expertise or qualifications is presumptively untrustworthy. Only those who say fawning things about Trump are accepted. And they will be excommunicated immediately the moment they say anything critical of him.

That’s how it’s going to play out. Trump is going to set off a global trade war, inflation will rise, and he and MAGA will call it fake news.

So why did Biden and Harris keep them?

Biden kept them because Trump instigated retaliatory tariffs by China making it very difficult to undo anything without making things worse. Like much of Trump’s foreign policy, he left a huge mess behind him.

GOP already did this once and it exacerbated the Great Depression.

Made famous again in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off:

OP here.

Are there no Trump voters who can explain how Trump’s policies will improve the U.S. economy?

The trumpers are too busy in other threads pretending that Trump would be good for the economy to actually address the few concrete things he’s said that would tank the economy.

EU greenlights tariffs for Chinese electric vehicles

The European Union voted on Friday to pave the way for tariffs of up to 35.3% on electric vehicles imported from China, a move that might set the stage for a protracted trade war with the Asian giant.

The vote comes after a year-long anti-subsidy investigation by the European Commission, which proposed the tariffs to counter what it sees as unfair Chinese subsidies.

This isn't the troll you think it is. No one is saying TARGETED tariffs are bad. We are saying BLANKET tariffs are bad, which is what Donald is proposing.
