MCPS covid cases

Does anyone know what the vaccination rate for any given HS is? Even if it’s 8”%, that’s still many hundreds of kids, so I’d a few a week get sick, I guess that’s not too surprising.

The state/county are not releasing current data. It makes no sense as even if they are having an issue with the website site they can share it in other ways.

The county posted this tonight:
https://montgomerycomd.blogspot.com/2021/12/message-from-county-executive_16.html

"Across the state hospitalizations have increased 44 percent since Dec. 3, and Montgomery County hospitalization rates are its highest rate since mid-April. There has also been a 29 percent increase in outbreaks statewide and 41 percent increase in school and childcare outbreaks.

Outbreaks are also increasing in Montgomery County public schools. Between Saturday, Dec. 4, and Sunday, Dec. 12, there were 518 new COVID-19 cases reported in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system. For comparison purposes, there were 1,036 total cases in MCPS schools between the beginning of the school year and Nov. 19 - for the entire first two and half months of school."

This also says we are at 82% of total population as they plan to lift the mask mandate at 85% which seems really irresponsible given numbers are going up.

We need data on the vaccinated and unvaccinated cases.

85% over the age of 5.

This isn't as simple as blaming the unvaccinated anymore:

Yep. Vaccinated people get covid pretty easily. And they are sick for a few days and go back to normal.
Unvaccinated people (of which there are plenty) clog up hospitals.

Do you have updated data to support your claim?

The outbreaks with the exception of Alabama and the US Virgin Islands are happening in the heavily vaccinated and mask mandate states in the NE and DC.

There is an outbreak at my DD’s high school but the school has not said anything.

I’m annoyed because our high school hasn’t sent an update in a couple days but my DS is hearing about a ton of cases in his grade. I want the numbers so I can decide if I’ll keep him home next week (I’m immuno-compromised).

The schools with outbreaks need to send a community message. This is ridiculous.

I live in Olney where we’ve had multiple new covid cases in the schools every day since early December. I know families affected (kids and adults). Everyone I know was vaccinated. Everyone. Some have mild cases, some have bad cases, and a select few are very, very sick (think: need monoclonal antibody infusion).

It’s bad and getting worse.

You are delusional if you think only the unvaxxed are getting sick. Everyone I know was vaxxed and our entire county is heavily vaxxed, yet the virus is spreading rapidly.

It’s nearly impossible to get tested, so you should assume lots of kids have it but stayed home from school sick and can’t get tested—which means the schools don’t have visibility on those cases.

More directly: the numbers are higher than what’s being reported.

Start tweeting at mcps to shut down early for winter break. They shouldn’t have classes next week. So many kids are sick.

It’s easy to get tested. What are you talking about?

Please tell me where you can easily get an appointment for testing?

The one walk in place without appointments just changed their policy.

I can take my kids to our pediatrician; other families I know have been shut out at the usual places.

How many kids are sick, and why should MCPS shut down about it? And why do you think that tweeting is effective?

Have you been in the last week? Seen the lines?

Parents see the line, then they drive home with their sick kid. Nobody is dragging a sick kid into that line.

It’s spreading among teens. Teens have sufficient agency to refuse standing in line.

If you lived in my area, you’d realize that many more kids are sick than the mcps numbers indicate because kids are symptomatic, their parents know covid is all over the schools, so they are assuming rather than bothering to get tested. The health department isn’t capturing the numbers of sick people who can’t/won’t get tested.
