LOL, all you have to do is email a VDA coach, it is that simple. VDA is a separate club and VYS have virtually zero input or say about player selections or VDA coaches. |
In fairness to VYS, they did hold a meeting at Inova Fairfax in the spring covering a huge range of topics - all of which you outline. It was announced through multiple forums - website, email blast, and social media well in advance of the meeting. Mike Cullina - head of VDA - came and presented and hosted a Q&A. Almost no one showed up. |
I guess I wasn't clear. All I meant was that it was my understanding that for the most part DA teams had already been set and tryouts had occurred before VYS announced it. I assume a few still made it however. I think you made an assumption that I knew what a DA was or when tryouts would occur. Me, like many others, don't know the difference between the leagues or what a DA or ECNL is, so I had to do my research after learning about a DA through VYS (which was late in the process). After doing the research I know that my kid has neither the interest or likely the ability to participate in a DA. My comment about not being a big surprise and letting it play out simply meant when the initial poster said there are few Vienna-based players, I suggested that we give it a few years to see if there is a bigger balance of Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun and VIENNA players. Not trying to be a jerk, just clarifying. |
Then I'll give you another truth nugget. There is no real tryout season for DA. Again, contact a VDA coach if you interested in your kid playing for VDA. Also they are posting a series of ID sessions: http://www.vdasoccer.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1226174 The way it is supposed to work, outside of the ID clinics, is that your player is invited to work with the team based on being recommended or scouted. You can ask to be scouted. In all practical purposes if you contact the coach they will either ask your kid's current coach about your player or they will either come to a game or just invite your kid to a practice. |
Phoenix! |
Our Phoenix team is overall great - nice girls and families, the training is good, and they are doing well in the league. The coach could have better communication with the team manager and parents though. |
Communication? Like posting about it on a “anonymous” message board? How hard is it for parents and the coach to figure out who posted this? And what is the gain of complaining about it here? |
This is were information comes to die and typical Vienna types blurt out stuff like training is good and doing well in the league. Um....the league sucks first off and define good training. |
So what is level(as in top top, 2nd team, etc) of the VYS PHOENIX '07 (VA). A Parent friend(stoddert blue 07) told me it was the top team. I did not think that was right, but did not want to say anything. |
The Phoenix team is the top girls team at Vienna. Its equal to the Red team for the boys but they call the girls Phoenix for some reason. |
Moving from NCSL has killed the top flight program at VYS. Let's be honest, the competition at the NCSL level is overall better than NPL from what I can see. Certain teams are always competitive such as VSA, PWSI, Kickers, etc. But Great Falls, Guston, and Tidewater are a joke. When we do tournaments it really shows which clubs are truly tested week to week. |
I'd even argue EDP would be a better fit for VYS' top teams. The only issue is high school play, with Virginia being the only state in that league that plays in the spring. (Maybe Delaware's girls?) |
WTF are you talk talking about? One VYS team finished 1st in NPL the rest of the teams fell mostly in the middle of the pack. Club wide NPL is more than an appropriate level of competition. Believing VYS needs EDP is laughable. |
Yes, it seems like the records end up in the middle of the pack as you stated because there are some competitive teams and some noncompetitive teams but the CONSISTENCY of the competition is better in NCSL and EDP. NCSL has pro/rel to maintain consistent competition and EDP is selective in who plays in which division. |
Again, unless you are dominating the league a step up is unnecessary. Frankly, VYS is one of the weaker clubs who cause a lack of consistency you speak of. Perhaps NCSL would be better. |
