This is a funny comment. I'm not old enough to have been doing anything since Reagan, but I grew up a Republican. It was watching a lot of my classmates sent off to a stupid war in the Middle East that changed my politics.

If that was the case, he would have done it during his first term. Further his “wrong reason” is that his polling is in the gutter. We know this is true because there’s a tweet for every occasion (see his tweet claiming Obama would do this because of low polling).

You know very little about foreign policy. He couldn’t go after Iran during his first term. They were flush with cash thanks to Obama. He was working to starve the beast. Then came Biden and let them get more cash by not enforcing sanctions. Previous actions by Israel and the US this past year has caused them to be weaker than ever. Now was the time to strike especially after the regime slaughtered tens of thousands of its own citizens.

Covid entered the scene after his 4th year in office had started, and that wouldn't have stopped him.

Yes, the privileged and moneyed folks fled, it’s no surprise they are overjoyed. However, Khamenei was a terrible ruler with regards to human rights and especially women’s right, nobody is missing him.
