Harvard tell Trump to pound sand

You cannot be serious. Trump is OBSESSED with sticking it to Harvard. He practically announces a new Harvard revenge tactic every other day.

Why did they wait so long to take action?

DP

Why did they take so long to take action based on “feelings”? Why didn't they take action because some students reported feeling unsafe or feeling unwelcome?

Maybe because they took the loud mouths in our society at their word that the feelings of snowflakes don’t warrant action to be taken?

Harvard hasn't encouraged free thought in decades.

This kind of vapid, baseless generalization just makes it clear that you had no chance of going to Harvard.

Really? You think they encourage and welcome those with conservative political views to speak and matriculate there?!

Of course they do. Maybe more classic conservatives than Trump 'conservatives' (given that it's a pretty anti-intellectual take).

Someone gave a whole list above of conservatives who went to Harvard (eg, Elise Stefanik). And most graduates -- the males at least -- of HBS are conservative.

DP.

Not quite true. Most Harvard students feel quite uncomfortable expressing contrary political views. Especially true for moderate and conservative students.

“ While 41 percent of liberal students reported feeling comfortable discussing controversial topics, only 25 percent of moderates and 17 percent of conservatives felt similarly.”

Moreover, “ Slightly more than a quarter of the class of 2024 respondents said they only like to engage socially with people who share their political beliefs. Only 29 percent disagreed or strongly disagreed with that statement.”

Now compare this with the general public or a sampling of workplaces.

Why? Does every workplace need to be dictated by the President to have equal amounts of Republicans and Democrats? Do we need to institute affirmative action for Republicans so they can have jobs in higher education? Should Trump also dictate that car dealerships and beverage distributors have equal amounts of Democrats working there?

He just lobs grenades and then goes to the golf course. Harvard keeps jumping on those grenades and then musters lawyers to stop the bleeding.

Harvard required DEI statements from all faculty members.

That isn’t critical thinking, it is textbook indoctrination.

Why do you care? People like you with such a complete lack of understanding of the concepts you mentioned would never qualify to be at Harvard anyway.

This is ultimately the unique problem with stupid people. Short people know they are short. Weak people know they are weak. Stupid people are incapable of understanding how stupid you are.

Because my taxes are going to this place! That’s why. If they want to be elite, make professors quack like chickens while burning the Torah in the quad, they can have at it.

But they don’t get access to federal funds. I.e., the public’s money.

Everything they do can be done at other institutions. Harvard isn’t owed a penny.

Dp

But mah taxussss!

Not OK to demand that American tax dollars are not to be used to enable genocide, but totally OK to demand that they are not to be used to enable IRB-approved scientific inquiry.

Got it!

OMG! Why didn’t you just say that racist institutions are where your line is drawn?! Great - call your representative and Senators ASAP and demand that the U.S. immediately end all funding for the State of Israel!!!

You’d be hard pressed to find a more racist institution, that’s for sure!!!

Which institution are you talking about? Bob Jones? Ole Miss? Alabama?

Not at all. I expect that in lots of settings across the country, the numbers of people that feel comfortable expressing their political views is a lot *lower* than that for Harvard students.

The Harvard numbers may be low, but I suspect they are actually not bad for a place that has people from across the political spectrum.

We notice you only listed southern schools. Such ignorance on your part. Take a good hard look at New England communities and schools.

Feelings? Those protests involved far more than just hurt feelings.

One person chose to get in the face of a protester, who shouted back at them. That one person claimed they were spit on … again, after that one person opposed to the protests chose to get in the face of the protester.

That is the full, complete extent of the claim of violence made against the protesters. Full stop.

Where’s the “far more” beef?

Interesting pronoun use. Are there more than one of you?

And yes, the south has a more notorious racial history than the north. Hence, the Great Migration.

Um, this whole thread is about a “New England school.”
