People saying this is staged, a conspiracy, a set up by Trump, or anything other than an assassination attempt are as looney as the Trump conspiracy theorists and deniers.

If the situation were reversed MAGAs would have had a field day with the conspiracy theories.

+1. What was it they called the Sandy Hook parents? Grief actors?

Any word on the state of the other two attendees who were injured?

This country is full of guns and mental illness so another mass shooting is not surprising.Three people were killed in Alabama last night, including a small child. That’s just one other news headline I saw today but I’m sure countless others lost their lives overnight due to gun violence. This is life in America today. What are Republicans doing about these issues? They block all meaningful and reasonable gun restriction measures and they desperately want to dismantle health care services, including mental health care services.

Thoughts and prayers.

Sad day, indeed!
His victory has now been sealed!

People are fed up with the hate. They see Trump never giving up on the American people. When did any President fight for America like this?

Is this a joke? He is the one who has brought the hate. Already forgotten Jan 6th, have you? Leaving office and refusing to welcome your successor. He does nothing but spew hate. Now he’ll be a national hero for reaping what he sowed.

Fight for America..ha. His America is not one I recognize or want to live in.

Then leave! Why is this so hard? Go to another country. The US will never be what you want it to be, and it has never been what you want. You are wasting your only life in a state of existential agnst.

Wow that’s an unpatriotic and defeatist thing to say.

Imagine if the founding fathers had said that and just left things as they were.

BETHEL PARK, Pennsylvania, July 14 (Reuters) - The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania as the suspect in Saturday's attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump at a campaign rally. The suspect was shot and killed by the Secret Service seconds after he allegedly fired shots toward a stage where Trump and was speaking in Butler, Pennsylvania. The FBI said it was working to determine a motive for the attack, in which one rally attendee died and two other spectators were critically injured. Trump was shot in the ear.

State voter records show that Crooks was a registered Republican. The upcoming Nov. 5 election would have been the first time Crooks had been old enough to vote in a presidential race.
Crooks lived about an hour away from where the shooting took place in Butler. The Federal Aviation Administration said on Sunday that it closed the airspace over Bethel Park for "special security reasons."
When Crooks was 17 he made a $15 donation to ActBlue, a political action committee that raises money for left-leaning and Democratic politicians, according to a 2021 Federal Election Commission filing. The donation was earmarked for the Progressive Turnout Project, a national group that rallies Democrats to vote. The groups did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Crooks' father, Matthew Crooks, 53, told CNN that he was trying to figure out what happened and would wait until he spoke to law enforcement before speaking about his son.

Thomas Crooks graduated in 2022 from Bethel Park High School, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He received a $500 "star award" from the National Math and Science Initiative, according to the newspaper.
A 2022 graduation ceremony video cited by the New York Times shows Crooks receiving his high school diploma to some applause. Video from that ceremony posted online shows Crooks with glasses in a black graduation gown and posing with a school official. Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the video. Law enforcement officials said on Saturday that Crooks carried no identification to the site of the shooting and had to be identified using other methods.

"We're looking at photographs right now and we're trying to run his DNA and get biometric confirmation," Kevin Rojek, FBI special agent in charge, said during a press briefing.
USA Today reported that dozens of law enforcement vehicles were stationed outside a residence listed at the address on Crooks' voter registration record. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on the scene and a bomb squad was at the residence, USA Today reported. The perimeter of the residence of the suspect was guarded on Sunday by yellow police caution tape. An Alleghany County Police vehicle was parked outside.

He was heard on audio complaining about wanting to put his shoe back on after it came off when he went to the ground, completely oblivious to the security situation. And you could see Secret Service literally trying to pull him to keep moving when they approached the steps but instead he was posing for photos like an idiot.

Trump has lost his marbles.

You are blaming a man for his actions right after taking a bullet to the head?

The bullet barely grazed him. He has had Secret Service for nearly 8 years and damn well should know by now that they are there to do a job and that when a crisis hits you do not argue with them over dumb things like shoes or a photo op. If there was a protocol failure in getting Trump off of that stage, it was 100% because Trump was keeping them from doing their job.

Trump likely has hearing loss and a concussion. Allow your neighbor to graze your ear with the round from a rifle before you judge Trump. Report back how you felt after being grazed.

I doubt it. The shooter shot from many yards away. Hearing loss and concussion could happen if the shooting was close to his ear. It wasn't.
But, he definitely has a wound on his ear. Fortunately, that is all. It could have been much, much worse.
Divine intervention. Or, really really lucky.

He was hit by glass not a bullet

Trump survives assassination attempt at campaign rally after major security lapse

BUTLER, Pennsylvania, July 14 (Reuters) - Donald Trump was shot in the ear in an attempted assassination during a campaign rally on Saturday, an attack that will likely reshape this year’s U.S. presidential race while raising sharp questions about security provided to the Republican candidate.

I wonder if this will change how they see these mass shootings now. They always have an explanation for them. I don’t like Trump but this situation is very sad. Now they know the nightmare that those poor kids live in their last minutes.

And then there's just the insane choice to not secure a rooftop 150 yards from the podium. I expect more from mall cops.

Donald Trump Could Lose Secret Service Protection Under New Bill

A prominent House Democrat has introduced new legislation that would strip felons of Secret Service protection, specifically mentioning former President Donald Trump in case he's convicted in one or more of his criminal trials.

Mississippi Representative Bennie Thompson, ranking member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, is bringing forth the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable Former Protectees Act—or the DISGRACED Act—which would terminate Secret Service protection for individuals convicted of either state or local felonies.
