This is a good one:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/09/17/dc-child-struck-driver-tickets/ Remember when a lot of posters were upset that that driver on Rock Creek parkway killed three people and they had $50k in speeding tickets but never lost their license??? Why is this city so insane? Fking impound the cars. I hate this new era of progressive nonsense. I’m sorry but sometime people shouldn’t drive. |

Heh, remember when DC let out a teenaged serial killer who murdered 4 people and had a few other attempted murders in the span of only a few months:
https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/teen-suspect-in-4-dc-killings-had-been-released-due-to-coronavirus-concerns-sources-say/2342734/ |
Wow, he said that to the press? Dude was in a Range Rover. This isn't about "progressive" or whatever angle you're talking about. It's about a complete lack of any enforcement of assault committed by motorists when they are motorists. The USAO won't pursue charges even when people are killed in a flagrant fashion. The DC-AG won't do jack either. They have tickets in a system, which they hide behind a license search. They should make this open data. Give a bounty to people who snag these aholes who have multiple thousands of unpaid tickets. |
| This is all the fault of the DC for failing to provide an adequate streetcar network for citizens. The government should be fined for forcing people to own cars. |
It is 100% the fault of progressive policy. Read up on why the progressive city council elected to allow speeding scofflaws to reregister their licenses or not lose them at all no matter how many speeding tickets they got. And this article is another example of how dangerous that is. They chose to allow this societal harm of dangerous driving so as not to deprive people of their livelihood. Basically progressive policy 101. |
I am voting for Kamala nationally, but yes you’re not wrong. I hope ranked choice voting passes in dc and somehow we get moderate candidates elected. As of now, all our council members are pandering with dangerous progressive policies like this non- traffic enforcement stuff to the poorest of Ward 7 and 8 voters. They want those votes at the expense of the safety of everyone else. |
| That article was crazy. My man you ran a red light and HIT A CHILD!! I often think the “traffic violence” people are a bit, erm, intense, but wow, this deserves much outrage. |
I think they regret it and will reverse that policy. |
You are confusing Democrats and progressives. Most of us Democrats don’t consider ourselves to be allied with the progressive wing of our party. The problem is that a lot of Republicans have decided that anyone to the left of Putin is a liberal. Jesus weeps at the actions taken in his name by the RNC. |
They are attempting to tighten up the policy apparently. I doubt they’ll do sht. I wish the Charles Allen recall was successful. All of them suck. |
Right? The balls on this guy. Sorry this little girl hurt your (most likely) shtty 2005 Range Rover with 200k miles that is extremely unreliable and expensive to fix. I’m sure the car is nicer than his house, too. |
|
The real issue here is that traffic laws and traffic cameras are racist. This has been documented in studies across the country.

he honestly comes off as a psychopath. I’m not sure if his prior tickets can be used in court against him. In any event I hope this article lights a fire under the DC AG to indict for aggravated reckless driving (or any higher charge available). |
| What’s scary is that this is an intersection of 4 narrow residential streets. Apparently this guy gunned it around a car stopped at the red light at a high rate of speed. There is zero reason ro be flying down the streets there except sheer reckless and disregard of others. I hope he gets thrown in jail, and I hope that DDOT installs speed tables all up and down 6th and E if they don’t already exist. |

It's not clear to me why DPW is NOT impounding cars. They already have the law their side. Further, MPD can pull over cars with tickets and call for an impound tow to DPW.
Even if VA and MD do not want to grant reciprocity, it is clear that the employees of MPR and DPW do not want to do their jobs. It's called a work stoppage and it needs to be resolved. I'm fine if DC wants to give a $500 bounty to MPD and DPW employees who get such a vehicle off the road. A federal judge already said DC can't require residents to pay their outstanding tickets to renew their drivers license as its a violation of due process: https://webservices.courthousenews.com/sites/Data/AppellateOpinionUploads/2022-28-12--09-06-44-122cv2481.pdf |
