Anyone take a family trip to Egypt in the past year?

What did you do, where did you go? Considering it for December with an 11 and 8.5 yo.

Not me recently (went ten years ago, had a blast but my knowledge is surely outdated) but two family members (in their 60s, good health) went to Cairo and Alexandria, and a Nile cruise. This was in April of this year. They had a fabulous time. They did a private tour for just the two of them, which they said they appreciated in getting place to place/not needing to drive or figure out logistics. I did not use a tour when I went but I was younger and a bit more carefree. I would probably use one now if going with kids.

Not Egypt, but we went to Jordan with DS7. Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba. We all had a great time!!

My cousin’s family just got back from a holiday in the Sinai. They seemed to enjoy it, good scuba diving and a general good time. Food was meh, but Egypt is not known for its food.

We did a year and a half ago with a 7 and 9 yo. It was absolutely fabulous. We had a terrific time.

We started in Cairo, did the pyramids. Then spent a could of nights in the White Desert, which was spectacular and the best part of the trip. We spent a day with a local family so our kids could hang with an average Egyptian family. We came back to Cairo and flew to Aswan. Then we cruised up the Nile to Luxor with the standard stops along the way. We did a sunrise hot air balloon flight above Luxor. Then we flew back to Cairo and did a couple of days exploring Cairo and the museums. We loved the trip.

We hired private guides that were kid friendly and our kids learned a ton. There's a ton of accessible history and lots of immersive activities.

Those … are not the same countries, or even on the same continent.

We went last year and had a really great experience. Flew into Cairo, A & K guide and driver took us straight to Alexandria. Stayed three nights at FS Alexandria in a villa right on the med. Lots to see and do there. Went back to Cairo to FS Cairo Nile Plaza. Recommend both hotels and using Abercrombie and Kent. We travel a ton, including the Middle East, and you definitely want tours/transportation taken care of in Egypt. It is not at all like visiting Dubai or Doha from an infrastructure standpoint.

Sounds like a terrible idea. Egypt is notoriously terrible for tourists

I went almost 2 years ago. Cairo/Giza, Siwa, nile cruise from Sohag to Aswan. Didn't go with my kids but I really want to take them back. As jews we are avoiding that part of the world for the moment.

This isn’t really travel. It’s being handled and sheltered. You need to figure out things on your own. If you did more than throw money at any challenge in life, you’d be more savvy and never make a comparison between Doha and Cairo.

Thank you! I think I found a previous post and you had used Memphis Tours right? What were your ballpark costs and what did you ask for to get the above experiences?

+1…what a bizarre response (and implicitly racist) response.

NP but I'd only want to do this being handled and sheltered. Sorry Egypt, some of your inhabitants ruined it for everyone.

So…recommendations for South Africa would have been more relevant? Are you sure about that?

Exactly. That poster is clearly jealous and has never been to Egypt. Why is it that the state department assigns off duty police and government officials to US tourists visiting through companies like this? It’s not for fun. Again, we travel extensively. Do we have lots of money? Yes? Sorry that depending on where we go, we use resources to make it as safe and enjoyable as possible.
