MCPD and MCPS are trying to be slick by admitting the gun was on school property without mentioning the school, but it's Northwest High School in Germantown. Copper Ridge Rd is directly behind Northwest HS. The original shooting from March 13, 2024, prompted nearby Fox Chapel Elementary to go into a lockdown. Mystery solved. Now we know that what prompted the lockdown at Fox Chapel Elementary was an attempted murder of an MCPS high school student by another student. MCPS and Montgomery County is in a very sad place. Northwest HS families, let us know if a community letter is put out about this since the arrest happened at the school. |
| When these things happen I always want to know if they are gang/drugs related or whether it’s an interpersonal dispute (eg, stole my girlfriend, etc.). They are both troubling but have totally different causes and solutions. Also would like to know if the weapon is one he took from a parent, or self assembled ghost gun, or bought on illegal market. |
Correct. I think MCPD/MCPS owe us that level of detail for exactly the reasons you pointed out. |
Both scenarios you mentioned are targeted, which I think is the more useful thing to know (was there someone just randomly shooting or were they trying to hurt a specific person). But it's only slightly useful to know... anyone firing a gun at school could easily miss or have richocet/shrapnel injure someone other than an intended target. |
Just as families deserved during return to school and reporting of covid numbers that were supposed to be updated and sent each evening. Who will make them send a MCPS letter? Rivera-Ovens, who stated at a BOE meeting that she and MCPS's new officially hired Jones and her go way back? Or someone else on this BOE? Taylor? They think families forget but they don't! |

More reporting about the arrest and the incident is coming out.
Here's what WJLA is reporting: https://wjla.com/news/local/teen-charged-germantown-shooting-archdale-road-jaiden-ochieng-attempted-murder-firearm-possession-gun-violence-maryland-juvenile-crime-youth-crime#
So it wasn't a ghost gun, but a stolen handgun. |
Either way a high school student has been arrested for attempted murder. How would you feel if this happened at your school? Or, is it simply NBD because it was at Northwest? |
| This is why MCPS needs bag checks and weapon detectors now! And, reopen the schools for kids with behavioral problems. And, hold the parents accountable. |
Certainly it’s a big deal. But if this is an interpersonal beef where a kid stole his dad’s gun, things like more sociopolitical support and education to parents about locking up their guns, etc., might be helpful. Gang violence is totally different — different causes, different solutions. At some point last year I was looking through the missing teen postings from McPD after a teen from my kid’s school went missing. It was shocking how many were Latino, and it made me wonder how much of it was MS13 related — like gangs luring young teens away as a recruitment tool or to traffic girls. |
This is an issue that our local political leaders need to address, but have summarily ignored. The increase in MS13 activity is directly related to the fact that our local politicians have encouraged unlimited undocumented immigrants into this county. And, this is a huge safety concern that is now affecting our schools. My Latin American neighbors (who came here legally) were so concerned about their daughters' safety in MCPS that they switched over to Catholic school. |
It didn't happen at school. |
The arrest happened at school. Police approached Jaiden and confronted him at school and he fled and attempted to ditch the gun he had on him, hence the charge for having a gun on school property. |
|
Remember this is the second murderer at northwest in the span of what? 5 years?
For the superintendent to make Safety and Security his number 1 talking point and keep shuffling violent students between schools instead of removing them to a separate facility is farcical |
Please start a petition. Present or send it to the BOE and Taylor before next Board meeting. |
| How do you pull up a school roster? Is it just for sports? |
