I saw Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides in the store. Is this good? Does it work?
Or is Whey Protein better? I am mostly vegetarian but eat meat rarely. Clearly I am missing amino acids - should I take collagen peptides or take the whey protein? Some many out there - hard to tell which one to take and which brand is good. People who take this, please advise. |

Incomplete proteins are fine, esp if you have a varied diet.
You are not missing amino acids if you eat : Fish. Poultry. Eggs. Beef. Pork. Dairy. Whole sources of soy (like tofu, edamame, tempeh and miso). Whey is a complete protein so it has that going for it. Key word there. Replace. Pair it with something that has tryptophan, the missing aa in collagen, and you have a complete protein. Pair it with any complete protein and you can add it to your daily count. |

Both beneficial. As a pp above said, you need food supplements to get the tryptophan but that’s easy. Whey is cheaper and tastes better IMO. |
I thought Whey protein was for building muscle. The collagen was for joints, hair and skin. Sounds like they are two different things - so depends on what you are trying to acheive. Does Collagen really help with joins, hair and skin - how long does it take to see results? |
Collagen peptides are just proteins for your body to make collagen.
You cannot eat collagen or take it in a pill to add more collagen that your body can metabolize. We cannot process pure collagen and use it. So the peptides are to give your body the fuel to actually make collagen. They work, just take a long time and do not really reverse aging- just kind of help skin and things that need collagen to function. |
The 2 supplements that are verified to work that I know of are creatine (like 40 years of studies) and collagen peptides to produce collagen (about 20 years). The impact to your skin and hair vary by individual- but you will have more collagen in your body. What the results in depends on individual.
