This thread does not belong to the Entertainment thread because it is about relationships in a couple.
While the gorgeous real estate is nice to see, what in my opinion truly stands out are the harmonious family bonds. The parents model to the sons what a loving, respectful relationship should be. This led their sons to be in similarly loving and respectful relationships to women who are, by American standards, neither conventionally beautiful nor "done up." One can see what a happy family this is. Apart from the couple relationships, also noteworty are the other family bonds. Six family members work in the same business, the office is the family home, a few of the adult children still live at home or recently moved out, grandma lives next door and comes over all the time. There are no tensions like the ones typically discussed on this board. Very refreshing and genuine, worthy of emulating. |
| I love this show and agree, OP. They’re the platonic ideal of a modern Jewish family. Lots of fun, work to live, close in proximity and candid emotionally. |
| Cool I’ll look into it! |
| Might make me envious. |

Were you under the impression that French people all behave this way?
Because my French family is NOTHING like this. In fact, over generations, it's had everything that movies like to include, including that one murder. |
OP here. No, this family is exceptional by French standards. I, too, have French relatives, so I know. A PP might be on to something, their attitude and values might have to do with the (secular) Jewish focus on family and community. |
| This have sex and an intimate relationship, its obvious why they have successful relationship. |
OP here. How do you know how much sex the four couples have? Mercifully they are sufficiently well-mannered not to discuss their sex lives on camera. My point was that the sons have learned from their father how to treat their wives. A son who is raised like this will make a good husband. |

Eve and Charina are so g-damn chic, each in different ways.
Also love that the mom was a teacher. And has anyone mentioned their devotion to their grandma? Total goals. |
|
Are they Jewish? I had no idea and we watch the show religiously as a mixed faith (Jewish/agnostic) family. No mention at all of their faith or even Jewish culture. Maybe that’s a French thing?
I agree that their family is incredible. I love that the dad and sons all kiteboard together! Their beach house is incredible. |
Agree. Sounds like it’s more Jewish movie series than Mediterranean or French. |
I have not seen the show and will check it out but can you say specifically what the dad is modeling and the sons are doing that is so great? Just curious what you are seeing that is prompting this reaction. |
| It's scripted. Scripted in a nice way but it's not real |
OP here. The father (and by extension the sons) is loyal, loving, respectful and considerate toward his wife. They are a team in business and in parenting. He sprinkles in little lovely gestures such as spontaneously kissing her on her shoulder. Some of the men in the family are very good looking. The women do not seem to make an effort (for example no makeup whatsoever on any of them). I remember back when the first season came out, a Los Angeles-based real estate agent friend of mine said that the way the mother looks, in LA she couldn't even sell a shack. Of course this is exaggerated or perhaps just goes to showing how superficial LA is and how much people there (wrongly) focus on appearances. |

I love this show as well! (Also had no idea they were Jewish for what it’s worth).
While I agree that the family bonds are admirable I do think the father can come across as a bit overbearing at times (particularly in season 3 with guilt tripping the sons who wanted to move overseas). |
