50 year old male, out of energy.. looking for ideas

Anonymous
Something about turning 50 this year has made me more exhausted than ever. I have a normal BMI, seldom drink; but this year, I have become super tired and unmotivated to do much of anything. I have been taking B vitamins but they don't seem to help. I'll see my doctor about it next month and ask for a testosterone level check. Does anyone have any good ideas or thoughts on other things to try or to ask my Doctor about? Thanks. -Sloth in Alexandria

How many hours a week do you work?
How much sleep do you get?
How much caffeine do you drink?
How much time do you spend on screens outside of work?

Those things could be throwing off your energy level.

Sometimes you need to start when you are tired and work up. Could you start with long walks - say 30 minutes in morning and 30 in evening.

I’ve slowly ramped up exercise over the past… 18 months and it’s been a slow grind. When I’m sedentary, I’m tired. When I have a hard workout, I’m a different tired. But over a slow ramp I can now exercise 4 or even 5 days a week and take lots of long walks. But it took a looooong time to habituate to each ramp up of effort.

Your Vitamin D levels are probably low.

OP here, thank you. I'll try the D vitamins, heard good things about it. And, yes, I need to start a low level exercise plan to help get me moving in the right direction.

For me it was an age where caffeine stopped working as it did before - no longer could I get by with 4 hrs of sleep and an expresso. I need a quality amount of sleep and that didn't just mean 8hrs of sleep. Good uninterrupted deep with REM. Then I would feel OK. And I haven't figured out sleep yet.

You probably need to go out with the boys and have a few drinks. Sounds like depression.

Do you exercise?

I would also ask your doctor to check your iron levels. If they are too low or too high that would cause fatigue. I went to the doctor recently for a noticeable decline in my energy and discovered I have high iron. Dr suspects hemochromatosis and has referred me to a hematologist.

Are you a fat boy?👦

Walk in the morning before work. Does wonders for me. Then start adding real strength training and cardio.

Yoga. Biking. Walking --> Running. Body weight exercises ---> Weightlifting.

Also, get in the sun every day! Even 15 minutes can solve your vitamin D problem as well.

You have to be off the charts low to get any prescription for low testosterone.

It is ridiculously restricted.

I was at the very low end of the range (by like a point or two) and they would not prescribe anything.

And these ranges (depends on age) are like 250-900.

There is a reason so many supplements advertise for low T.

I found that brickhouse fuel raised my testosterone but it ls like 200 bucks a month.

Before I started it I had already gotten in great shape and exercise a ton - but that seemed to drive libido lower so I I got tested (twice) for my levels before trying supplements. So far raised it over 150 points.

Mine was 170 in April. Doc was about to prescribe TRT. Recheck levels last month and test increased to 370. Only thing that I changed was getting some sun exposure.

What brickhouse product? I also might try shilajit.
