I would like to incorporate more protein and fiber in my diet. (I am 44 and I think I'm in perimenopause- gained 15 lbs the past year with no changes and can't lose it)
I've never been a fan of smoothies but I think they would be useful - using powders for protein, fiber and collagen. I just made a smoothie with frozen berries (raspberries, blueberries, blackberries), banana, protein, collagen and fiber powders and milk. It tasted okay but once I added everything the final smoothie was huge! I don't want to have to drink all of this. I see people drinking these huge smoothies- must be 24-30oz. Does anyone try to use all the powders etc but make it into a small serving size- like under 20oz? |
Can't you just scale down your ingredients, e.g., half a scoop of powder instead of a full scoop; half the amount of milk?
Or keep the large amount and split into two cups; save the other half for a different time (may have to reblend for better consistency) |
They aren’t useful unless you are using them in place of a meal. If you have the time to eat real food, skip the smoothie |
The problem with smoothies- especially the one you described - is they have So MUch Sugar, when you use all that fruit. And they're not filling, not satiating. If you do eat meat, eat lean meat instead. No traditional breakfast foods like pancakes and bacon and stuff.
Just eat lean meat and vegetables for breakfast and for your other meals. Cottage cheese is a good protein as well. Eggs are fine too. Smoothies are really not a necessary part of anyone's diet - bodybuilders trying to get 5g protein per lb, that's different. I don't get the impression you're one of them tho. |
A smoothie is only useful if it enables you to cut 500 calories a day counting the smoothie calories. Then you might lose weight. Just adding protein to a bunch of berries is wishful nutrition. What's the collagen supposed to do? Drink the fiber powder in water with lemon |
Just eat real food.

I like smoothies and this is how I do it:
Pick whatever size glass you want to drink. Mine is 12 ounces. Fill 1/3 frozen berries, 1/3 frozen spinach or kale, 1/3 banana. Then fill with almond milk and add 1 scoop of protein powder or almond butter and 1TBS hemp seeds or chia seeds. Then mix and voila. Perfect size every time. |
