"M.I.T. is the first highly selective university to release statistics on the composition of its freshman class since the high court’s ruling."

From the article:

For the incoming class of 2028, about 16 percent of students are Black, Hispanic, Native American and Pacific Islander, compared to a baseline of about 25 percent of undergraduate students in recent years, the announcement said.

The comparison to the class of 2027 was even more dramatic. The percentage of Black students enrolled dropped to 5 percent from 15 percent, and the percentage of Hispanic and Latino students dropped to 11 percent from 16 percent. White students made up 37 percent of the new class, compared to 38 percent last year.

The percentage of Asian American students in the class rose to 47 percent from 40 percent.

As expected. I also predict Harvard will not have as radical a shift.

This is great for MIT.
I’m worried deeply about non-tech institutes made to create researchers.

I’m sure the FAFSA mess played a big part in this.

So no gain in white seats. All the seats previously occupied by URM went to Asians.

This follows what we are seeing on tours. We toured a dozen top20 schools this summer and the tour groups were 75-95% Asian and South Asian.

My kid (mixed race Asian) was completely turned off and we're left wondering what to do. She wants diversity in college.

You can look at the demographics of the schools.

All those people arguing that schools would just cheat based on the essay were wrong. Black students went from 15 percent to 5 percent - a two-thirds drop. I only predicted a third to a half. Looks like MIT at least didn't cheat. It'll be interesting to see the Harvard numbers.

They haven't released demographic data yet. That's the entire point of this post. (Did you even read it?) MIT is the first school to publish class of 2028 data.

As expected. But a little surprised by the decline in Latino students. There are a gazillion students with at least a grandparent from Latin America. Lots of Brazilian, Argentinian, Chilean families value education.

Harvard should have much better numbers. MIT is a tech place which is a very different admission standard

What mess?

The white kid with the Chilean grandfather no longer feels the need to check the box

What mess?

FAFSA was a disaster this year. At the Lower level colleges, it decimated the amount of students who are first gen or low income who then attended to college, since students could not commit to colleges without financial aid offers.

"Better" numbers = "more likely to get sued"

I am guessing Harvard will be more gun shy than you think.
