| This is for teens to share as our second car they've been driving for 2 years is 15 years old and is on its last leg. I do want the car to be my taste as I'll drive it when they are off to college. Would you get a Mazda 3 or a Tesla model 3? Either would be 2022-2023. Price difference is not huge. |
| I would get an EV (maybe not a Tesla but between those 2 a Tesla) |
| Cx-30, not 3. |
|
Mazda will be cheaper, easier, faster to repair. And you won't be funding Elon Musk.
|
| For me, the Tesla, hands down; but for relatively new driving kids, the Mazda. Teslas are too fun, zippy, fast accelerating for most (not all) kids to resist the temptation to do something dumb. |
| I would also avoid a Tesla, but purely because of Musk. However, used EVs are a great deal these days. Especially with the federal $4,000 tax credit. You would have to get a 2022 or older for that, however. |
|
Apples and oranges, since one is a EV and one is not. First decide on your use case, then find the vehicle which fits best.
Annual operating costs for each, including routine maintenance? 2-wheel drive or AWD? Do you have the ability to charge at home? Will the vehicle ever be used for long road trips? Do you care about eliminating the maintenance and repair issues associated with gas-powered vehicles? Does cargo capacity matter - they have different amount of interior space. Have you checked the cost of insurance for each to see the difference? |
Either car would be driven locally. We have a bigger SUV for any road trips. We would get a charger if we got the Tesla. And no, cargo/ AWD doesn't matter (driving conditions are always good near us, no mountains, no snow). Insurance is not a big difference either (we did look into it because I saw that mentioned here). I am thinking maybe the Mazda. Theoretically a Hybrid would sound nice but there are none near us for a reasonable price. |
| I wouldn't do the Tesla unless you think your kid can be responsible with the acceleration. The other advantage to the MAzda 3 is that is WILL require more care and maintenance than the Tesla. No time like the present for your kid to learn the importance of monitoring and caring for something like a car. |
| Buy whichever you can for less and with cash. Mazda, Suburu, Honda, Hyundai are solid and maintenance is little and affordable. |
| This far eould go to college with him. |
And your income has to qualify. |
| Is insurance a consideration? One might be much more expensive than other especially for young drivers. |
|
For me small SUV not because it has four wheel drive, but comes out I'm really hard on my tires. SUV is also wider, safer and slightly higher.
Since I changed Mazda3 to two different small SUVs, never had this breaking tires against sidewalk problem. And Cx-30 over Honda HRV- any day until they add horsepower. |
Dd really does not want an SUV. She is very short and hates driving ours. |
