Shorts on a plane?

Traveling from here to somewhere where temps will be in the upper 90s. The last time we were here I made the mistake of wearing pants to be comfortable on the plane, but then I was miserable for the hour or so as we transitioned to the hotel. But shorts on the plane seems miserable in a different way. How do/would you manage this?

Linen pants. Why do you want to expose your body to so many germs? Planes aren’t exactly a healthy setting. I just came back from Italy and wore linen pants on planes and trains, worked great for heat.

I’d wear pants on the plane and be “miserable” for an hour after landing. Is an hour really that big of a deal?

They have pants with zip off legs. Or just change in an airport restroom. Or wear lightweight pants. Poplin.

What's wrong with a pair of adidas or other lightweight moisture wicking pants?

Granted, they will melt to your skin if plane catches fire, but thats a pretty long tail risk.

Most people wear shorts on the plane in summer. I just took a long haul flight to Hawaii.

OMG. I went through a phase (lasted more than a decade, I'm embarrassed to say) during which I was obsessed with wearing only natural fibers on planes for fear of synthetics melting to me in a fire. I'm more chill about it now. This was prompted by reading an article about that specific risk then remembering that when I was a kid in the '70s my dad's cousin had her polyester shirt melt to her skin in a kitchen accident. She was deep frying french fries at the stove, and her German shepherd jumped against her back causing the hot oil to spill all over her arm, melting the shirt into her skin.

I've never worn shorts on a plane, regardless of the season or destination. Planes are always too hot or too cold. I'd freeze in shorts.
