I frequently go to bed hungry which feels wrong, but in the morning I am not longer hungry. (I am in a deficit for maintenance.) Is this just ghrelin and to be ignored? I find it very annoying that hunger signals ≠ real hunger. Or am I thinking about it wrong? |
*no longer hungry, pardon the typo -op |
This happens a lot to me. I think it’s my body running low on energy and turning to food for it, when it really just needs sleep. |
Empty stomach is not hunger.
Growling stomach is not hunger. Takes getting used to. Drink warm liquid. |
What in the world?? Of course, it's hunger. What if not these symptoms is hunger for you then? Passing out on the street? |
Not "growling". Ghrelin is a hunger hormone. I'll admit I had to look it up, but she didn't mean to say "growling". |
NP here but “growling stomach” is a pretty common phrase and “gherkin stomach” is not, so…. She probably just meant growling |
When my stomach is legit growling at night I can’t sleep because the hunger pains hurt and keep me up. I eat a few crackers and it goes away. If that destroys my weight loss plans, well then , so be it |
This. It doesn't happen that often but if it keeps me awake at night, I'm going to eat those two pieces of cheese so I can go back to sleep. |
Growling stomach can have a variety of causes. Empty stomach doesn't mean my body needs fuel. It's digesting my last meal. I don't usually eat between meals or after dinner. I have GERD and don't lie down after eating, People with glucose issues may have different lived experiences. |
My lived experience is that I need three meals and many snacks between waking at 7 am and sleeping at midnight. Unless I have dinner very late (9 or later) I usually have something between dinner and bed and I'm usually hungry by 8 am. I feel like I have the appetite of a 200 pound athlete.
With all this eating, I have no trouble maintaining a healthy weight of 120 at age 52. My DH only needs one small and one moderate meal per day, never snacks, can forget to eat entirely, and has a BMI of 34 or 35. We're all different. |
I’m like this, too, OP. I always assumed it was my insulin and blood sugar evening out or something overnight. No idea. |
Oh i thought growling was hunger. What's hunger then? Are there cues besides feeling it or timing? |
This is rather meaningless. Are you 4'8"? 5'8"? |
Hunger at night means you’re overtired, OP. Try not to eat! |
