Pinecrest and IAS entry

Anonymous

Our team rep sent out messaging about the 2 1/2 foot entry for All Stars at Pinecrest. Does anyone know if they plan to overfill the pool to help a little bit with that?

Yes. I can confirm the pool will be filled as high as possible. Strongly recommend coming to orientation tomorrow.

I hope coaches are having their swimmers work on shallow dives this week

I don’t think it’s that much shallower than Overlee, which successfully held two big events for D1 this season.

It is crazy to me that they let kids dive into such shallow water in this area. Where I grew up they stopped letting us do it in the mid 90s. The second and fourth leg of the 100 medley relay started in the water.

A girl I grew up with dove in and hit her head and became paralyzed from the waist down. This was a freak accident years after the rule change. She was a very good swimmer and lifeguard. It was a freak accident that can happen to anyone in shallow water, even if you know how to do a shallow dive. I wish they would just ban it.

Freak accidents are just that. There’s no way you can make all sports 100% safe from any chance of injury. In my 10 years at Pinecrest, we’ve never had a major incident involving the shallow dive end. We’ve had two minor incidents that required nothing more than ice.

Yes. It is. However McLean is super shallow and other than a scraped up stomachs or two nothing bad has happened

Please PLEASE step up and offer your pool to host next year so Pinecrest doesn't have to do this two years in a row.

Note: Pinecrest is a Division 5 team -- in the last 10 years they have been anywhere between 4 and 7. They've won their division a few times in recent years. Obviously they have some successfully competitive kids who manage to figure this out. That's what pool familiarization and warms up are for.

NP and not NVSL, but your all star meet is having kids dive into 2.5 feet of water?! I’m sorry but that is a clear safety issue and “pool familiarization” is not the answer. You all care so much about summer swim that everyone is going along with this like it’s NBD?

So why are you even commenting?

There are several others pools in NVSL with 2 1/2 feet starts. (Overleee and Dowden come to mind). It sucks. But you make do with the old pools that you have.

The league warned people and that is something that everyone can prepare for. All stars in this pool will probably not be the best times. It is okay.

Because it's complete MADNESS to be subjecting kids to such unsafe conditions! Who's in charge and who signed off on this?

Why do people keep saying Overlee has a 2.5 foot entry? Not a thing.

The NVSL.

Is it just collective gaslighting that it's allowed? I can't imagine any insurance policy that would permit authorized diving with such a dangerously shallow depth. Why wouldn't they use in-pool starts? I've seen that used is similar circumstances.
