Success applying to Michigan

I know Michigan recalculates gpa. I know they don’t count + or - for grades.

What else does Michigan focus on in app review?

Are apps reviewed in the order received?

Major?

Following. Trying to figure out if DC should apply to LSA Economics or take a big gamble and apply direct admit to Ross (with a much higher risk of rejection).

Following- any insights into kinesiology appreciated

Just back from Michigan orientation for LSA '28. Besides from the obvious (grades, stats, extracurriculars), kid spent a ton of time on essays - really did a deep dive into classes and professors and programs she wanted to take advantage of at Michigan. Obviously do not write about football games at the Big House.

Me again - and another no brainer - she applied early and from our high school only kids who applied early were accepted. No one who applied RD got in, even kids with very high stats.

My DCs info is a little dated but while there was an essay about intended LSA major it’s not really an admit to a major. He did major in Econ but could have done any LSA major. He could have transferred to Ross but chose not to. Probably a mistake in retrospect.

9:11 here and agree with this. DCs essay was very specific to Michigan, the Econ program, etc. Also applied/accepted early. Interestingly did not visit so no demonstrated interest.

EA - they don't have ED. I'd aim for a 1500 or better. My kid submitted four 5s and a 4 on junior year APs and anecdotally I think that was one of the things that helped but then lots of kids do well on APs.

Is Michigan test required?

When you say apply early, are you saying apply before the November 1 deadline or apply in September?

No, but they seem to care about tests. My stellar DD was TO and was waitlisted.

DC applied EA to Engineering and was deferred, then rejected. DC's stats ... 1530 SAT (one sitting), submitted 5 APs (Calc BC, Chem, Lang, World Hist, Comp Sci A) all 5s. 4.0 UW

DC got into Cornell (RD), Northwestern (RD), GaTech (EA), UVA (EA), UIUC (EA), all for Engineering.

Slightly dated. Accepted 3 years ago, 34 ACT, 7 APs all 4s and 5s, Ross B school. Chose to go elsewhere. 3 others from the high school with similar stats also accepted. All submitted scores. All unhooked Caucasian.
