Dartmouth death

I started to believe Dartmouth had changed but now this. I did some searching and found a grad student was also found dead in the same river recently, also Asian. I didn’t find any news that followed up on what happened to her.

I read that the grad student died of probable suicide.

This is so sad. I thought initial reports were hazing?

I like Dartmouth, but my kid did not bother applying because of the fraternity and drinking.

This really has nothing to do with the particular college. It has to do with kids being dumb enough to pay money to get friends. There's no easier place in life to make friends than in college.

Dartmouth has a very greek-life heavy social scene sadly.

I've been listening to the podcast hosted by the dean of admissions. I started to put aside all the stereotypes of Dartmouth from when I was in college and was pretty open to my kids applying there. But now I won't encourage it.

The first was graduate student/suicide, and the second was being "investigated" as a "possible" hazing incident. Hazing happens during initiation which would have happened (if at all) when he pledged, not over the summer between sophomore and junior year. Instead of gossiping about something so tragic, maybe wait for the facts to come out.

You clearly don’t know much about Dartmouth and specifically sophomore summer. For those of us who do, this is tragic but not shocking.

Stop policing the thread. This whole site is speculation for the most part.
After something so tragic, people are going to wonder if Dartmouth still has a toxic Greek culture.

Dartmouth students are required to stay on campus for summer term between sophomore and junior years. Students joke that they are in training as soon as they get to Dartmouth for the amount of partying that goes on during sophomore summer.
