It isn't possible to know how you will really feel about having kids until you have them. And then whatever you feel, you are told is normal and that it can take time to bond, and having kids is just really hard, and sleep deprivation keeps you in a dark tunnel etc. I think the number of people who have kids knowing that they don't want them and then go on to murder them to get rid of kids they never wanted are the minority of cases. That does not seem at all to be the case here. |
DP. Strangling a defenseless infant with an exercise band is disgusting. Full stop. |
And I assume you're a racist who has absolved Lindsay because she's a UMC white woman like you. I also assume you don't read the papers or watch the news because people kill their children for this reason all the time |
The people defending her are jumping to conclusions too. Just the opposite ones. |
Of course it is. But if you have PPD and are in psychosis, you aren't aware of what you're doing is the point. |
Ma’am, welcome to the internet. |
No, but we're talking about someone who had PPD. The woman was suffering from a disease. It robbed her of her decisionmaking. And she wasn't on a few drugs--she was on 13. |
She was on 3 medications at the time of the murders. She was NOT diagnosed with PPD from multiple, unconnected, medical facilities. |
A few other mothers who killed their children in the last few months. The Lindsay Clancy case will maybe highlight this issue.

So what about people with severe depression or bi-polar? Are they also innocent of any crimes they commit becaue of their disease? |
Question for the “murder is murder” pp and the PPs who believe Clancy deserves no mercy: do you likewise believe all these women, regardless of mental state / medication they were on, also should get the death penalty / life in prison? Or is there something specific about Clancy / her method of killing that you find particularly heinous? |
Exactly, why is this so difficult to comprehend? Lindsay Clancy’s case is not unique, there are arguably more severely mentally ill murderers sitting in jail cells or dead via lethal injection right now. They weren’t ever placed in mental hospitals, they are in prison or dead. Even if Lindsay had PPD, I honestly believe she had preexisting anxiety and depression, but even if she had PPD, this doesn’t take precedence over other severe mental illness. Most of the other moms who murdered their kids are imprisoned. Just do a little research and you’ll see. |
Is it worlds away though? Who decided that? Dahmer absolutely had some mental illness going on, who appointed you arbiter to decide which mental illness gets a pass and which doesn’t? |
She never received a diagnosis of PPD or PPP. And also we must revisit every single murder case ever to try and determine the mental states of the murderers. Lindsay Clancy is not an exception. |
Maybe our entire national approach to mental health, which results in us having the highest proportion of mentally ill people in the country being “treated” via incarceration in a system that does not treat them at all, needs work. |
