Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
| My son is going to turn 3 in November. We had his 2 year old party at one of those gym type places and it was fun but those type of parties can be expensive. Money is a little more tight right now and our house is very small. We have lovely friends with children between 1 1/2-5 years old and want to have a birthday celebration for my son with his (and our) friends. I know that the weather here can be tempermental, but let's just assume a normal chilly November weekend. I love, love, love Fall weather and we go outside all the time on the weekends. But, we do bundle up and perhaps asking parents to keep their toddlers outside in chilly air for 1 1/2-2 hours is asking for too much. I would love some honest feedback, and if not outside then some good suggestions?! Thanks! |

Of course. That's what jackets are for. If we're already staying inside by November, it'll be a loooong winter.
But what will you do if it rains? |

November weather can be really iffy. Why not move the party up a month and go to a farm for picking pumpkins? Not usually expensive, and they usually have activities for kids.

| Definitely! I love Nov weather! |
| Absolutely! |

Sure... so long as you have a backup plan for weather:
DD's birthday is in March. One year for her party it was glorious and about 70... another year it snowed. |

PP here with the March birthday DD...
You may want to look into renting one of the county park facilties. That way, you have the "inside" in case of inclement weather, and the outside playground for the kids to run around in. |
| I went to a birthday party at a park on a particularly chilly Saturday this past March and it was not pleasant. Nobody even wanted to take their gloves off to munch on snacks. The hosts ended up with a ton of extra food. The kids were fine because they were running around, but the adults were miserable. Of course, I'd go to an outside party in mid-November if it was for the child of a good friend, but that doesn't mean I would enjoy it. |

Absolutely. We love going to the park in the fall. It can be warm up into December. There is a cold spell or freak snow occasionally so I do think you need to have a back up plan and a temperature threshold when you would decide to bring it indoors. Kids do mind when it is chilly, parents might but not kids. If you pick up Starbucks for the parents they will love you.
There is an added benefit that the kids are less likely to pick up germs at an outdoor park than an indoor park. November always seems to be when my kids catch something and its usually right after a Chucky Cheese party. |

I would go on a normal crisp November, but not if it was unseasonably cold or raining (even drizzling). I agree with PPs who suggest a back-up plan in case of particularly bad weather.

| Hit or miss, so I would not invite more people than I could host in my place just in case |
| Check out local farms that do the "pick your own". Several of them are open year round, and a few have indoor areas incase there's a bad chill that weekend. |
| I'd go--sounds nice to me. |
| DEFINITELY!!! I would much rather go to a park in November in DC then in July or August. My kids would too. They can't stand the heat and neither can I. |
| I would go. |
