Post election concerns

I've been through a few coups and formerly worked on political transitions in my day job. There are troubling signs as we approach the presidential election in November. Should I send my kids back to college with their passport card? To date, they've left their passports at home for safekeeping. Should I start carrying my card in my wallet?

I'm not looking to relocate permanently but be able to leave if necessary.

Of course, Canada may simply shut the border, even with proper documents, so there's that.

It’s interesting OP. The people-like myself-who have witnessed or come from places with semi recent history of political unrest, feel uneasy about the elections. Many Americans are like “silly people, it would never happen here.” But it can happen. It has happened throughout history. I have no idea how to prepare though? I mean I’m worried with either result but some of the language used by a certain person and his supporters raise all sorts of alarms. Like big, red, blaring alarms. His supporters would say I’m a snow flake leftist for saying it but I’m really not. And Btw-having an American passport means what exactly? That you can just flee to wherever you would like? It’s not how it works.

Among the emergency powers POTUS has is freezing bank accounts and shutting down the internet. So think about what you would do without those.

Trump and his minions already tried a coup once. I have no doubt they will try again and do better because of lessons learned in the last cycle.

I hope our institutions are up to the task.

I think there is the strong potential for political violence no matter who wins in November. Lots of evidence, both recently and over Trump administration, that left affiliated groups are prone to using violence to achieve their ends.

I literally LOL bc the lack of self awareness is just…argh. We are so screwed. Yes, PP. It was the leftists who broke into the seat of government to “protest.”

Your lack of self-awareness is laughable. Who stormed the Capitol? Who engaged in an insurrection? Who vandalized federal property? Who has been sentenced for the January 6th acts? Not leftists!

We have the summer of 2020 to see what havoc the left can cause to the country.
I have no doubt they will pull some of the same crap if Trump wins again.

Think through this, OP.
What would your kids do? Where would they go? What is your plan? What would be the "trigger" to instruct them to put these plans into place?

I think you are not thinking rationally.

The 2020 summer preceded Jan 6, and the fencing was originally erected in dc pre election was because of fears from the left not right.

I think Trump is going to echo Reagan’s onslaught of Carter and win in a very large margin (electoral college).

So, therefore, no needs to gnashing of the teeth required by libs post-election.

Just go to Texas, get close to the border and walk backward to Mexico. No one will notice.

You think? I don’t know. Republicans used to support strong presidential candidates. Even w had a certain cowboy swagger about him.

Trump is so weak and whiny.
