I am 50 years old, 5'4" and 132 lbs. I would really like to get back down to around 126. I exercise daily, avoid processed carbs and sugar (except for a small square of dark chocolate per day), and am not intaking more than 1300-1400 calories a day. After four months of doing this, my weight has stayed exactly the same. I really despise HITT workouts, and cannot see myself sticking to them on a regular basis, but I do weight training in addition to cardio. Is it possible that my weight is never going to get to where I want it? What is wrong with me? |
You’re 50. 132 is where your body is happy. It doesn’t care about those last 7 vanity pounds. Stop weighing yourself. |
I get it and on some level I don't either, but I really do not want to have to buy all new suits, and cannot fit in my current ones. They're nice and I have also paid a bunch to have them tailored to fit my former body. |
Try intermittent fasting or intense workouts for a week or two to shock your system/wake up your metabolism from its hibernation.
Sucks you despise hiit- it is probably one of the most effective and easiest workout routine to sustain for body maintenance and weight loss. |
You don’t need to lose weight. |
You will get hate for this post, but I empathize with you including the issue of your clothes. I am same age and am a person who maintained my body weight my entire life outside of pregnancy so all my clothes are one size. I gained 10 lbs and none of them fit right. So it was either lose the weight or buy a whole new wardrobe. I walked 45 minutes every day, did some more intense cardio combined with weights when I had time (mostly weekends and I tried to fit it in 1 day during the week) and I ate less. For me it was skipping lunch, which for me isn't a big deal. I cut out all sweets and no alcohol. I get busy at work and the day flies by. I have never counted calories. But in the end, what I did that worked I think was just eating less. |
Track everything that passes your lips for the next month. *Everything* and the exact amount. |
I’m 51 and 132 is my goal weight! But I’m not dismissing you at all. I REALLY hear you on clothes. Ive lost a lot of weight and it’s frustrating that nice pieces just don’t fit. It feels even worse when they’re too small, and boy have I been there. Is it possible that it’s not about the weight so much as changing body composition/shape that comes with age and the dreaded M word? Thats something I have noticed and have heard same-ish age friends commenting about, too. Even if the weight comes off, things aren’t fitting the same way they did. |
Oh, that is possible and had not even occurred to me. |
Try an anti inflammatory diet |
I’m 51 and the exact same weight I’ve been for decades (120 ish). Things are fitting differently these days. It sucks. I’ve always had a fairly flat stomach but it’s getting puffier these days. I can still fit in most of my clothes but things are definitely changing. I’m not in menopause yet. |
Clothes fit people not the other way around. You shouldn't be wearing 4 year old suits anyway. |
It sounds like you are doing all the right things and that you are incredibly healthy. Was there anything in particular that caused the weigh change that you can pinpoint? |
Not OP, but hy not? I have very plain black, navy, and gray suits. I wear them at most once every other month. |
Most people can’t afford to buy new clothes every few years. I can’t. |
