Just got notification that my Wegovy dose is ready!
1. Anyone in the morbidly obese / need to lose 50+ pounds category work with a nutritionist or food service? I need some structure for myself and also need to figure out how to work it into my whole family meal plan. 2. Thinking about side effects - what day do you take it (weekly shot)? Any other tips for those of us starting out? |
(And thought about putting this in the other thread but felt more off topic). |
(And yes, I’m reading this about side effects). https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/1183813.page |
Reddit has some good forums, namely r/OzempicforWeightLoss. Make sure you’re eating lots of protein! |
My concierge doctor offers a consult with a nutritionist as part of their service and I am set up to see the nutritionist in early June. Couldn't come at a better time, because I'm a week into Wegovy and getting stomach pain and some diarrhea after eating, and need the help sorting out what to eat.
I took my shot on Thursday night (last week was my first) because I had a huge work project Tues and Weds and Thurs, and I was concerned about side effects. I actually didn't have any for a few days. Now I do. Sigh. |
Here is a more Wegovy relevant thread: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1205170.page |
My heath insurance offers complimentary Noom each year. Worth looking into as an option. |
Not everyone had side effects. I took my shot every Monday morning for a year and lost 54 pounds. I lost weight because I ate so much less- I just wasn't hungry |
I do mine on Thursday mornings. I have had three side effects: Fatigue, nausea and taste alteration. I cannot eat potatoes (they all taste bitter), charcuterie, cheese and some pastries taste like pure butter after a couple bites...So I am limited in what I can eat. I focus on some vegetables and protein every day, and whatever doesn't give me horrendous nausea. I do best eating very little in the evening or nausea wakes me up. You will find you want to eat much less. |
I had been counting calories before taking Wegovy, and by doing so you pretty much automatically gravitate towards foods that will give you more bang for your buck (like protein and high-fiber foods), so I did not need to change my diet very much (I cook from scratch anyway). I just ate less of it.
For me, Wegovy made wine taste bitter and cheap candy fairly tasteless. I only had a few instances when I felt nauseous; however, it's hard to say that it was medication-related. I take Wegovy on Monday mornings. I usually have yogurt/fruit/granola or oatmeal for breakfast, leftover dinner for much, and protein/veggie for dinner. Since it makes me eat less, I prioritize protein and veggies over rice/pasta. |
Yes, I worked with a dietician. She emphasized the importance of getting enough protein, which was helpful. My only side effect was constipation, which I manage with veggies and a fiber supplement. If you get constipation from it, my tip is to stay ahead of it. Also, some things do taste different. I no longer enjoy wine, and sweets don't taste as good. GL! |
I take my Wegovy on Saturday night. I started that way because if I had any side effects, I wanted it on a day when I'm off work (I work on Saturday).
As it turns out, I have had very minimal side effects, particularly as time went on, so that's good. |
