Wegovy -- Side Effect Severity and Onset?

Anonymous
I am starting Wegovy at 0.25. I picked it up from the pharmacy today. I have two twelve hour days ahead of me at work -- tomorrow and Thursday. I'm anxious to begin the medication but I'm worried about side effects hitting me with intense work days where I can't control when my breaks are. Can anyone who is on it tell me about their experience with the onset of side effects after taking the first dose, and what side effects those were and how severe? I could just put it off until after this work project, but I'm moving this weekend, so that isn't a real convenient time either.

I've read the packet of course, and understand what the "most common side effects" are, but I'd like to hear from folks taking the drug in addition to what the website set up by BigPharma wants to tell me.

And I wish this weren't necessary, but it probably is ... to preempt the bs: I have a BMI of 34 -- thanks to medication that I have to take -- and taking Wegovy to help address it was my doctor's idea. Don't need any input on that or opinions regarding who should and shouldn't take Wegovy. I have my doctor's opinion on this, which is plenty.

For me, it kicked in about 24 hours after my first shot. It was intense nausea. I likened it to morning sickness. And then the fatique set in about 3-4 days into it. The nausea didn't turn into vomiting unless I ate something I shouldn't have.

I would wait until the weekend if you can. I took it for a year & always took it on a weekend night in hopes that I would sleep off the worst side effects. My kid told me that it made me super grumpy for about a day after the injection.

I had pretty rough side effects for the first five or six months. Not all the time but every few weeks. Usually a day or two after injection.

It helped to eat really small, light meals the day I inject, take papaya enzymes (idk if these really do anything but I felt like they did), and make sure to be hydrated.

Now a year in I just get mild constipation.

OP here. This really helps, y'all. I appreciate it. I'll wait until my work project is over, and try to take it on Friday.

Take it at night. For me I got a headache a few hours after the injection and so I switched mg injection to the evening so I would sleep through that.

No side effects here, at all (other than losing weight - 54 pounds total) I gave myself the shot every Monday evening before bed. Have been off for 5.5 months now

That's fantastic! Good for you! I hope OP has similar results.

OP here. So it has been a week. Thought I'd report back for anyone else who searches on this and finds the thread. I injected on Thursday night and had zero side effects until Sunday night -- stomach pain that felt like really bad constipation, but I wasn't constipated and I had to go to the bathroom probably 4 times during the night. It was bad enough that I had trouble sleeping and at one point I even dreamed about how I felt like I needed to go, lol.

The last couple of days I've felt not-so-great after eating a meal (I'm fine if I only eat a little bit), lots of -- hmm, it's not really cramping, more like I can just really feel the peristalsis if that makes sense? And having to go to the bathroom more than normal. I definitely don't feel much like eating.

I'm also tired, but I just moved, so it's been an exhausting week -- so not sure it's a side effect or not.

I had some bathroom urgency for the first week and loose stools. After that no side effects, even on my dose increases. I've been at 2.4 for 9 months. I have lost 30 pounds.

It’s different for everyone. I’m on 1.7 and still don’t have more than occasional and mild stomach upset.
