| Acting Principal Pamela Krawczel sent a community letter acknowledging that a student was caught and arrested with a loaded gun on campus. This is terrifying. |

Dear Paint Branch High School Families,
I am writing to inform you about a serious incident that occurred today, during which MCPS security successfully intervened to confiscate a loaded handgun from one of our students. At approximately 10:00 am, a teacher reported seeing what appeared to be a student with a weapon in his waistband to security personnel. The student was escorted out of the classroom to conduct a self-search. A loaded firearm was found with ammunition that did not match the weapon. The student was detained, and school leaders immediately notified the Montgomery County Police Community Engagement Officer (CEO), the MCPS Office of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management (OSSEM), and the MCPS Office of School Support and Well-being. There was no disruption to the school day as the Montgomery County Police Department arrived to confiscate the weapon, arrest the juvenile student, and transport the student from campus. It is important to note that throughout this incident, our staff remained vigilant and dedicated to ensuring the safety of all students and staff in the building. What occurred today is an extremely serious matter, and I am requesting that you take a moment with your child to reinforce the seriousness of bringing anything to school that could be considered a weapon. Weapons of any kind may not be brought to school, and students are subjected to serious disciplinary actions in alignment with the MCPS Student Code of Conduct <https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/students/rights/> and potentially in violation of the law, as is the case today for this incident. I understand news about a firearm in school can be unsettling. Our school counselors and support staff will be available to offer any assistance or guidance your child may need. Thank you for your continued partnership. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you. Pamela Krawczel Acting Principal Paint Branch High School |
| Another day, another MCPS disaster. |
Sorry to hear this. So, Principal was "allowed" to write what type of weapon it was in the letter to community? 🤔. |
At least the CEO program is keeping our kids safe! |
| Have a student self search when they know he has a gun and then calling the police in after he hands the gun over just doesn't seem like the brightest of plans. |
It's probably the process when a parent of the minor is not present to give permission for the security guard to search their child. |
This is occurring all across the US, not just MCPS. This should also be seen as a family problem, not just MCPS. The system doesn't raise the kids, etc. |
Yes. Exactly this. This is a national crisis. |
Dude. It's a frigging loaded gun.. they could have panicked, pulled it out and started shooting. The police should have been there before rhe student was pulled out of the classroom. We have become a society of morons. |
This. Take away sros, consequences and combine that with bad parenting and you get this. |
So MCPS has no responsibility or accountability for how it is failing to respond to enhance safety protocols because this is a “national crisis”?! That makes sense to you? |
I know right. Principal Mooney at BCC has no leg to stand on. |
The police were called after the gun was pulled out. Unbelievable. What insanity. |
| I do not trust admin with anything related to firearms. A weapons search should only be done with police present. |
