How Much do Club Coaches Make

Anonymous
I feel like there has been a recent uptick in comments either complaining about many poor club coaches in the area or being upset that clubs don’t replace a “problem” coach, so how much do we really think these coaches are getting paid?

Rmsc doesn’t pay their good coaches well and they don’t fire their bad coaches

And they didn't pay them during the pandemic when swim teams were not practicing but I'm not sure if we got money back. I remember being pretty pissed off about that.

They raised fees a few years ago to pay them better and didn’t.

Ours all drive junky old cars so I’m assuming not a lot.

We did receive either a refund or a credit. At the time, it was upsetting to me that the club coaches went without pay. Some were not eligible for unemployment.

Not much I Think. For RMSC, the coaches even have to pay lane time for lane time when giving private lessons. That how one of the Rockville coaches got in trouble. She was not paying.

There are bad coaches everywhere in every sport. They all get paid. Some parents suck also. If you think you can do it better, go for it.

Swim coaches do not get paid well.

I can’t remember the amount but I remember thinking our summer swim coach got paid well last summer. For a couple hours work in the r mornings.

Someone toss out a number.
Do they get paid like $20,000?
Is it meant to be a full-time job? $50,000?

It's been a few years since I coached- for a larger well-known and highly regarded team in the area- but I was salaried for around $36,000. I also go my health insurance through USA swimming.

Um, they work 3 hours in the morning(not counting set up/take down) and minimum of 2 meets a week. Prepare the practices and meet sheets and lineups for meets. Have coach meetings and talk with reps. Relay Carnival prep and meet. Divisional prep and meet. All star relay carnival prep and meet. All starts prep and meet.

Team events. Pep rallies.

Its a lot, and I guarantee you, with the exception of maybe McLean and a couple others, they aren't paid much

OP, Are we talking about year round club coaches or summer club type coaches? There was a recent thread about summer coaching.

Club coaches. We all complain about bad coaches not getting fired but who here is going to go work full-time for ~$36,000 a year given the other option is just no coach.
