| DC has a 3.6 and very high aspirations. I think he needs to look at Top 50 as his reaches but I'm told I don't know what I'm talking about. So just checking here out of curiosity to see if I'm really that off base. Can he get into a Top 20 with a 3.6? |
| Absolutely! Is he an amazing athlete? National level ECs? Exceptional recommendations and LORs? There is so much more to an application outside of GPA, but a 3.6 is going to need really strong extras to gain admission to a T50 school. |
| Weighted or unweighted? Private or public? |
| OP here. Unweighted, Private and plays two sports, but only one at a high level/year round. |
| Unless there is a hook, 3.6 is a long shot for T20 . T50 is possbile. |
That's what I thought, but he claims I dont know anything since "things are different now." I was hoping his college counselor would talk some sense into him but they just told him to make sure he has a backup option. |
This. Not at our private. 3.8 though and you can…. |
| What high school? |
|
Try:
Case Western NYU Tufts (ED?) Lehigh Wake Santa Clara |
Agree with this. 3.8 is pretty much the outer reaches of the top20 at our Big3 school. Athletes can go down to a 3.6. |
| Tufts and NYU are not viable options based on my kid’s private high school. They are turning down 4.0uw/1500+ legacies left and right. |
ED/ED2would be required for this kid. |
| Trouble is what mine will be getting in if they don't bring home at least a 3.8 |
This is a good list. Thank you... I had brought up NYU for ED. I also mentioned he look into UMD and AU and he guffawed like I had insulted him. I hope his college counselor gives him more hard truths in the Fall so he hears it from someone else. |
