So excited I am merely overweight now, no longer obese

So to all the people who don't struggle with their weight this might be puzzling to celebrate being overweight, but to me I met my goal of not being obese.

I was always on the border of overweight/normal BMI before having kids but once I had my second child I never lost the weight and stayed for the most part obese. I am 53 now with teens so it has been a while that I have been obese. About 16 months ago I really started working on making small changes with a goal of not to be obese. I have lost almost 2 pounds a month, so in total so far I have lost 27 pounds. I am really pleased because it is just so much easier to move and be motivated to go outside and garden or take a walk or just be more active. My ultimate goal is to lose another 27 pounds which will put me finally back to an average BMI. I told a friend how pleased I was and she really didn't get why I was so pleased. Anyone else celebrating making it into the overweight BMI category?

Way to go! I am short so knocking of even 10 pounds makes a difference.

Congrats OP!

I'm at 29.6 after losing 7 pounds. Obviously a lot more to go, but I'm just happy to see the numbers going in a positive direction. Just trying to eat better and be less sedentary.

Congrats OP!! That is a great accomplishment. I was in your shoes not long ago. I totally understand where you are coming from.

That is wonderful news! Great job.
It is always something to celebrate when someone goes from morbidly obese to obese, obese to overweight, overweight to normal, and underweight to normal. I am so happy for you!

I meant "or", not "and"

I hadn’t weighed myself in a while when I started and decided to get a new scale and weigh myself everyday. The scale has an app that averages your weekly rate. And has some nice charts. I was shocked to see 15 mo this ago what my bmi was 34.5 which was almost out of the mildly obese range.

It was such a shock that it really motivated me to do something. Is so hard to get active once you are obese. As I have lost weight it is so much easier to move. And it hs been helpful my DH who is not obese was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so as a family we are eating much better.

I dunno why your friend was such jerk. It is a big deal and it's sustainable because you went so slowly. I'm proud of you! Losing weight is hard!

Great work, OP! You are lowering your risks for diabetes, NAFLD, mood issues, some cancers and even Alzheimer's. Fantastic modeling self care for your kids!

So proud of you, OP! Maybe you can spend time with more supportive friends as a treat to reward yourself

Woohoo! I am a hair's breath away from being overweight and I can't wait (pun intended).

Keep up the good work!
