| Dc is torn between two schools. One is 20/25k cheaper. Can we sway them to that one as a tiebreaker? I don't want to cause resentment. |
| swaying as in manipulating or swaying as in asking them to consider the cost and the values of both schools? |
|
Without knowing the college, cant comment.
OP, share the names |
| Your soon to be adult child SHOULD absolutely be taking finances into consideration unless you are filthy rich (I guess). |
Right and can you couch it as if you go to cheaper school we will have more money for other things |
| If the child is torn, I would present finances as the deciding factor. |
| I agree with the others that it's fair to bring up the topic as a major factor to be considered. I might do it within the context of offering a $50-100 a week allowance if they go there (assuming I believed they'd use it responsibly). |
| Schools have net price calculators. If you can’t afford the school that is 25K more expensive, why didn’t you tell your kid that when they were applying? |
In what way? Say I prefer you then choose cheaper? |
State flagships similarly ranked. Maybe one is 33 vs 45. |
So what schools and major? |
It seemed in line w others but is a little more than I thought. And cheaper one is less plus merit. |
| Yes, it is fair. Everyone should understand what “value” means. Understanding value vs cost will serve your child well for the rest of their life. |
Not OP but GaTech is 33. Purdue is tied for 45 so I’d guess that one. |
