Odd. We all knew that going in. We all knew it wasn't going to work. And what was JLC's decision? It's almost like that's what we've been saying all along. He doesn't care about our community nor what we seek. |
The age groups that do have adequate numbers for the academy concept are not being run like JLC spoke about during the Town Hall. JLC plucked coaches from teams to make room for himself. I recall when JLC joined LMVSC he was listed as a coach for the “EDP” teams but his players did not follow him. The teams he took from RL were top tier last year and are now bottom, even with a majority of the players from each team returning. Is it a sign when JLC coaches an age group he also had while at SYC and is unable to attract any of those players to his current team. It’s almost the opposite, where his current players will be joining SYC (or Alexandria). He continues to misrepresent himself and our community which allows our neighboring clubs to gain from it. |
He and the club (not just him, there were other directors involved) made a decision that they thought would help the club. I assume that this decision was based on them thinking they were not going to lose as many players during the pandemic. Does this mean he doesn't care about the community. No. I think they need to recognize that the model didn't work and what they should do is look to pivot in another direction to try to save what they can. |
The only reason LB hired JLC was because EM left for SYC. That's it. LB tried to hire two other technical directors and both accepted before turning down almost immediately; for any reason you'd believe, the point remains JLC was NOT the first or even second choice. It was a desperate attempt to recruit former players and it didn't work. So this year, JLC decided to go with the 'academy structure' but it appears to me that it was likely an attempt to hide the small numbers during tryouts. The end result? Many lies from the LB, JLC, and a really bad soccer experience for the players. We'll be removed from CCL by next season if we don't voluntarily leave. LB will stay onboard, thus, we will continue to diminish as a club. If you're okay with that, stay. If you're not, leave like the rest of us will. Stupid decision to believe them on my part, I'll admit. |
Okay, the club decided it. Well the club had their registration numbers and decided to go with it. It was a bad attempt to hide the small player pool. |

I'm not disagreeing with you, was just saying that the finger pointing shouldn't be on him only. I agree that the implementation has not worked as described which is why they should change and go in another direction in the winter. Just be upfront with us and tell us you decided to change. Probably would get a lot more respect from it. Why wait. Even staying in CCL, find a better place for teams to play based on current player pool level. |
Fair enough. But every parent should ask their child’s coach if they’ll return next season. |
| You know what would be really cool? If JLC did any of the things he promised he would do. |
Wondering why you say that? |
Why would the coaches stay? There’s so much fluidity in leadership, LB is still in charge, etc. LMVSC keeps losing like 1/3 of players every season, can’t imagine the pay is that good. |
Beyond academy structure, what exactly did JLC promise. Not an LMVSC parent, but this is getting tired. Did he promise you'd win all your matches? Did he promise your ulittle would develop? Did he promise EDP glory would follow? Please describe what JLC promised beyond an academy based structure where the kids would develop together. I've read here that he hasn't fulfilled that promise because the teams don't train together. Which is understandably a big deal. But what other promises did he make to the club when he took over that you don't think he's living up to? |
Suppose that depends on your definition of good. It's a not-for-profit so the director salary's are posted or at least will be as soon as the most recent tax statements are uploaded. But if coaches leave, where do they go? Who has openings to take on those coaches? A coach who wants to continue to get paid to do so is only going to make a move if there are jobs for them to take. One one hand, we yell that these guys are incompetent leaders who should never work youth soccer again. And on the other hand, we say the coaches should flee Where exactly are they going to go if they quit? Are Alexandria/Arlington/SYC/Gunston/BRYC as neighboring clubs going to snap them up and start paying for teams that don't exist? I'm sure a couple will land on their feet, but in the game of music chairs, there aren't exactly a ton of high profile teams just waiting for their next uber coach. |
There are always openings at every club. Coaches move on all of the time. Relocation to main job, family moves, opportunities elsewhere. Coaches at all clubs have people they have worked or played with somewhere in the past. Lmvsc coaches don’t coach there because that’s their community. Something drew them there and something will draw them out. As to asking your child’s coach if they are coming back, not sure why they would tell you that. It’s their private decision and not a question you should ask on how they are going to earn their income in the future. If you are concerned and want them back, tell the club you are happy with them and that you would like them to continue working with your player. The club is the only one that should be having conversations with the coach on whether they are returning. |
That was pretty much it, the overall academy concept. The other stuff was pretty much what any other club says. |
