| Not sure why posting that half of Barca's teams will be playing in ODSL is considered a "drama." It is a factual statement. You can certainly debate whether it is a good thing or not, but the original post took no position on whether it is a positive or negative. I am not sure why simply stating a fact about a program joining a league is controversial. |
I was the OP and made the statement as a joke. Well one of those jokes that are half in jest and half in truth. Some of the other threads have been full of drama the last few days. Anything posted about Barca almost always includes drama. I figured someone would point out how it is crazy to pay $3k for ODSL level teams and then a ton of pro Barca posts bashing anyone and anything that sounds even remotely against Barca. Looks like the second part rang true, even without the first part. |
They have several teams per age group. They are not at the same levels. It makes sense for some to be in EDP and others ODSL. People pay for development and part of development is meeting the needs of individuals however far along they may be in learning the methodology. |
The development angle may be true for younger age groups, but it makes no sense to play $3K to play on a U17 ODSL team. |
It’s too much money for odsl for anything u12 or over. u11 and younger, it’s a discussion. |
Do you simply trolled in order to provoke Barca parents? And you think somehow that makes Barca parents look bad and makes you look good? |
| He may be a troll, but his main point that it is crazy to pay $3K for ODSL level team is valid. I am sure that Barca's recruiting pitch to the parents did not mention that their DC will be playing in ODSL. |
ODSL isn’t worth $1200 in travel soccer either. ODSL is bad at nearly any price |
Arlington, BRYC, Loudoun, Alexandria, Great Falls, etc. all field teams that play in ODSL. Barca has many teams in EDP and now some in ODSL. The development and training sessions/coaching are the most important aspect of Barca, not leagues. They have players of all different levels and individualize training and league play accordingly. Parents know what they signed up for and understand the process. There is also a longer training season/sessions than most Clubs. Your drama is a ridiculous attempt to discredit and I still don’t get why you care so much if you don’t have kids at Barca Academy. It’s absolutely pathetic. But, you sound very much like the troll in the girl FCV/Spirit threads. Thanks for your concern, btw, and for keeping all of the threads going in this forum with your constant vigilance. |

The Barca teams in ODSL get the exact same training, coaches and development as their teams in EDP. Both play in the same number of tournaments and games (albeit against different levels of competition). So in either case you get the same product for your $3k, why is only one worth it? Because one kid is a better athlete? You don’t need to be an elite athlete to love playing soccer. Teams playing against appropriate level competition seems like a good idea.
I think the typical assumption is that ODSL teams are getting less quality training and coaching, and for many clubs that may be the case. But once you realize Barca doesn’t run their program that way, that all teams receive the same quality of training and attention, regardless of skill level, then you don’t really care which league the competing teams are from. Barca parents who have kids on the ODSL teams already know they don’t have elite players, but their kids love to play soccer and they are glad to give them a high quality experience |
I agree that one Barca protagonist seems to be related to the DA trolling going on in other threads. The pattern of anti DA posts coinciding with revivals in this thread have happened time and time again. I believe the poster outed themselves in this thread worth their non-sequitir rant against US Soccer in a post here several months back. That said, the comments on ODSL are very relevant concerns and not trolling. There are parents at Barca who aren’t happy that their investment has resulted in ODSL births for their children, who were playing in NCSL or more competitive environments in the past. The other clubs mentioned who field teams in ODSL typically charge much less for teams that compete in ODSL, a fraction of the cost at Barca. These are facts and a definite concern for some people. |
I am a Barca parent and I don't think that paying $3K+ to be on an ODSL team (at Barca or at any other club) is a wise investment. |
Would you rather stay in EDP and lose every single game as many of the Barca teams did in the fall? Those teams clearly weren’t ready for that league. It doesn’t serve the player development well to have lopsided games in either direction. I am also a Barca parent. I don’t view my $3k as an investment in anything. It’s a fee and if the training, coaches, facilities, methods are good quality then I could care less which league the team plays in if the games are competitive. As players develop they will join the EDP teams, play with older age groups, face tougher teams in internal competitions and tournaments, so plenty of opportunities if ODSL isn’t enough of a challenge. |
| Barca is making a mistake by joining ODSL. Most clubs send their 3rd or lower teams to ODSL, it's almost an admission of their talent level. |
Not all of their teams are going there. Their first teams are NOT. Barca is 1/8 the size of big clubs in the area so it makes sense some of their 2nd/3rd teams would start in ODSL. The pool isn’t as deep. There are many very talented players. They just don’t have the depth/numbers and they will develop what they have. Some of those younger teams very well will move up in the future. |
