GT/AAP Appeals

One more thing: if every e had the Wisc, that would be the metric of choice. The county can not afford it, so they figure between nnat, cogat and gbrs, they will find the smart kids
Anonymous
why would wisc 125 be better than cogat or nnat 140+?
this is county's way to send money to GMU. I bet all kids wih 140+ scores in cogat/nnat scores could easily get wisc 125+. so, parents who cant pay gmu with those kind of scores will be ill served. may be the county should pay for wisc for all the kids who scored 140+ but stll got rejected

Just an FYI to the haters that say we are buying access to the program and that only people with money can afford the WISC: This is taken from GMU's website. Hope it helps someone in the future.

Q: How much does the INDIVIDUAL assessment cost?
A : Fees are $380 for cognitive assessment and $700 for cognitive and achievement assessment payable to GMU by cash or check only. Students with documented eligibility for a free or reduced price lunch from any public school system are awarded scholarships covering all testing costs. Fees must be paid in full at the time of the initial appointment. Bounced checks will be pursued according to usual GMU policies and procedures and may include a service charge.

Oh really? The kids in GT don't give a rats behind who got in first round, who got in on appeal, and what everyone's Cogat Score is. They're busy being kids. Brilliant ones, but kids nonetheless.

Not ONE Mommy on this thread beat the system. They followed the established guidelines and their deserving children were tested independantly and got in with the high scores that they earned.

free lunch kids are at the bottom of economic spectrum. tgerr are others for whom 380 is a biy deal

It would be nice if the WISC testing was done on a "sliding scale" basis.

Keep telling that to yourself. There are two camps. One are the tiger moms who put their child(ren) up to being humiliated a 2nd time. The other group got their child(ren) past the system and hopefully won't do irreparable harm by placing the child(ren) in an environment too demanding for them.

Let's not argue with the stupid troll. We are just giving troll what it wants.

Not sure it's better or worse. My kid got 142 FSIQ and 147 NNAT. 147 on one of the CogAT.
These scores should overrule subjective and incosistent gbrs.

Average kid will get wisc score of 100. Google is your friend.
Appeal process exisst because it's needed. Sorry!

There are some kids got in with cogat 130 in the first round.

If someone suggests that they probably need to raise the bar little bit higher, I may agree.
However, it has nothing to do with appeal process.

There are many kids got in first round barely socreing over 130 on one of the tests with inflated gbrs.
It shouldn't be too demanding for kids socres high enough on WISC by the Committee standard.
Everying will be ok. Don't worry too much. Move on.

There's no humiliation by not getting in AAP wether 1st time or second time.
Most kids don't even know and care anyways. Kids will be kids.

To those who weaseled your way in through the back door, thanks for adding to the overcrowding problem to the kids who played by the rules and were rightfully accepted the 1st time because of their merits.

I find it quite interesting that our resident Thread Troll showed up at 11:24 with this new round of ignorance. I say interesting, because at 11:35, 9 minutes after our troll showed up, a comment was posted on the "average kids" thread:

Anonymous wrote:We have one DC who is about 3 years to 4 years above grade level in most areas and is in AAP.

Other DC is squarely average and these two AAP kids in his grade started teasing him relentlessly a couple of weeks ago in school because he was complimented by the assistant principal about someting non-academic. They will not get off his back.
I have been feeling so angry about this the last few days I feel like I 'd love to sabotage the whole AAP program (it's not like DC1 is challenged in it anyway so for us it wouldn't make much of a difference).

So that explains our troll's motivation and resentment... Troll, I am sincerely sorry that your DC has been getting teased by two idiot kids. That is horrible and unkind, and nobody deserves that.

But you are an adult. And you are lashing out at parents who only care about what is best for their DCs during a vulnerable time. And that is beyond horrible, it is horrid. I have some news for you, you (like I) are insignificant relative to the system you despise. And your actions do nothing to sabotage the program. They only create negative energy, and more bitterness in a world that already has too much of it.

I truly hope you find inner peace, and overcome your psychological issues. I hope so for the sake of kind people subjected for your vitriol, and for your sake as well. Because karma is real, and the misery you are feeling is of your own making.

I recommend the troll's kid take TaeKwonDo.
I recommend the troll to have some sort of religion such as Buhddism or Christianity.
That might help him/her find inner peace.

Also home schooling is an option.
