No idea. Hasn't been explained to parents. However most interesting tidbit in all the materials is a line on FCV's website about access to ECNL-R.

So FCV is getting ECNL after all!

VIVA (VCF) is FCV spelled backwards so it is a natural pairing.

That is probably why they are using ST J name instead of FCV. Viva may get asked to leave ECNL R if they realize they are teaming up with FCV.

Are FCV teams going to switch from Black to Yellow?

Oh, look! All of the VIVA practice fields are within 2-6 miles of The St. James facility! Hope everyone enjoys their last year at Evergreen . . .

Their ability to pull from the pool of players in Loudoun is drying up (due to having nothing but 1 good GA team at older ages and GA being an inferior league to ECNL) and they can’t pull from other ECNL clubs in Fairfax or PW. Strategy of putting all their eggs into one elite girls team per age has failed. So, they need to merge with lots of second rate clubs now to keep members and money coming in. This is the beginning of the end. Eventually, they will just be STJ and will be mostly a Springfield and surrounding areas club. If they are smart they’ll start focusing on that population and focus on boys too. Meanwhile, Loudoun Soccer will persist and be even more dominant in Loudoun Co. Cest la vie, FCV.

Nothing wrong with change. It happens. Just hope it is for the good.

Hope is not a strategy. Get out now before the ship goes completely under.

Yep, it's been on a steep downhill slide for about 2 years.

It is hilarious how this and all soccer club press releases say absolutely nothing and yet they all sound the same.

One paragraph describes the adulation each club has for one another. Usually one TD is "genuinely" excited to be finally working with another "like minded club".

There will be a paragraph dedicated to the prowess of each club followed by eluding to some vague statement about a new "pathway" that will finally exist for the entire community through the unique nature of this "true" partnership.

There are never any concrete statements that matter to parents and players. Things like:

1. Will teams practice together?
2. Will new teams be formed?
3. Is this a real club merger?
4. Will coaches be changed?

What this likely means is:
1. FCV needs to expand its player pool.
2. The St James needs local paying customers and it needs local fields to accomplish that.
3. FCV's time at Evergreen may be up sooner than people thought. (See reason #2)
4. The exclusion of the "FCV" name in favor of all "The St James" indicates a likely branding change to coincide with a possible location change.

What isn't said in the release is almost as important as what is said. It is boiler plate and vague enough to come off as nothing special, which is intended to keep FCV parents content. It doesn't read like any kind of take over
