No clue how it started, but my MIL sends DH and I a $50 gift certificate for a car wash place every year for our birthdays. So useful and appreciated.

Got one for DH. Listened to 1. Never used it again

I would like to hear what people think who’ve actually used it. I love the idea, but the reviews aren’t great.

You're not missing anything unless vanilla is the star of what you're making. Cooks Illustrated recommends Baker's Imitation Vanilla.

Cooks Illustrated has steered me wrong so many times I no longer value their recommendations.

+1

+2. I’m still bugged about the dark muffin pan I bought because they told me to.

Montreal bagels. Jessies peanut butter cups from NYC. Custard from Milwaukee. I once ordered Georgetown Cupcakes for someone and while they're not my favorite it was a huge hit.

We ordered Lou Malnati's pizza for DS's birthday (he's a graduate student at University of Chicago, but has been home for the past few months). Absolutely delicious.

That said, I'm not a fan of useful gifts. I love gifts that are unexpected luxuries -- doesn't matter if they're small ones. I'd rather have one delicious chocolate bar than a Roomba (what my BIL gave my sister last year -- it was not a pretty scene).

LOL. I LOVE useful gifts. My MIL has given me so many bottles of luxury lotions, etc, that I've never used, but I use the roomba she gave me all the time.

Does your MIL know what kind of scents you favor? My MIL always gives me citrus-scented lotion because she knows I love how it smells. Yes, I can buy my own hand lotion, but it's sweet that she remembers my preference.

NP here. Not to downplay how awesome these are but I was super curious about the sword thing so I googled the company. Looks like they only make personal grooming items. In any case, they have great reviews on Amazon and I just ordered one for my dh.

My DH wants this too but I’m hesitant because he uses one of those thicker leather phone cases. He would have to take the phone out of its case every time he got into the car. With the case still on, the phone won’t fit.

Also it drives me nuts that’s it’s called Cup Phone instead of Phone Cup.

We had a one year subscription that recently expired. The idea is great but not sure we learned anything new and beyond what we could read in a book or find on YouTube. My personal opinion...

I was looking for a present for my mom and this came up-- it looks perfect for covid-distancing at home.

Also, a Breville tea maker and high end loose leaf tea.

Agree that online subscriptions to Cook's Illustrated or Masterclass would be great.
