St. Patrick’s vs NPS

No comparison. Nps is so much better. More compassionate, better teachers and administrators. Our friends son attends st Patrick’s and his lower school teacher sounds like a nightmare.

NPS placed about a third of this year's class at the Cathedral Schools and about a third at Landon & Holton Arms.

Interesting. I’ve never been impressed with NPS via hearing about it from people who go there. It always seemed so non academic and soft. I will reevaluate my opinion. Thanks.

That's impressive! We are considering NPS for our DS.

My children were very well prepared for middle school and beyond having attended NPS. There's nothing wrong with being "soft" in elementary school and the curriculum is so well thought out that each year built beautifully on the previous. Maybe that's where the non-academic misperception comes from. It's rigorous but developmentally appropriately so. I can't say enough about how well thought out the curriculum is.

Yes great placement! Do any other privates in the area end at 6th?

NPS is pretty unique. I think most schools are N-5, N-8, or N-12?

No, there are several other models. For instance, Primary Day and Beauvoir end at 3rd. Maret starts at K, not N, and in fact, most start at PK, not N. Then you have STA and NCS starting in 4th and Holton and Landon starting in 3rd. You really cannot generalize.

I was looking at end years, not beginning years. You are absolutely right about some area schools ending in 3rd. NPS ending in 6th gives the children a good, long run in elementary. They are prepared well for middle school (the 6th grade year has a lot of leadership). And after, a lot of students attend the same Middle School and High School, so they have another good, long run.

My children, currently in high school and college, both attended St Pats and then moved to top private schools in the area for 7th. They both had peers at their new schools who came from NPS. From the little I could see as a parent, as well as anecdotal evidence from my kids, there was no significant difference between the kids who came from St Pats and NPS. They seemed be equally well-prepared academically and generally really great kids (good citizens, honest, and kind).

I know and like many NPS families. I was happy with our experience at St Pats. My children have done extremely well at the schools they have attended since St Pats as have their peers who attended NPS. I honestly believe they are both great little schools and most children would do well at both. I think, in the end, if you have to chose between these two schools you are extremely fortunate and you should just go with whatever feels more comfortable to you and your family. Were I to be in that position tomorrow, knowing what I know now, I would choose based on how comfortable I felt while visiting each school - taking into consideration the school atmosphere - and my interactions with the administration, teachers, and other families.

hear hear PP! With regard to NPS, the 2020 outplacement demonstrates graduating students find their way to good fit next schools. I am sure St. Pats do similarly. Best to all of the graduates at both schools.
