My niece and nephew are ski bums... both parents are lawyers, they live in their parents ski in/out condo, both went to private colleges at $60K/year each and now they are just "finding themselves". |
Hockey was definitely a rich kid dumb jock sport where I grew up. Ivy League hockey rosters are the dumbest kids on campus. |
| An old money guy my husband works with has his kids in boarding school and their school does an entire month or maybe semester (?) in Switzerland in the winter so they can ski? That sounds pretty darn elitist. |
and the average age is 22... but the ones I knew were smart. |
The lady doth protest too much! |
Those are pretty pricey for Junior skiis! I think you overpaid! Without the boots? |
Not for race skis. I think we paid about that for new Fischers this year. |
In what way does skiing confer special treatment and advantages on the wealthy? Skiing may BE a privilege only available to the wealthy, but that’s a very different thing. |
Not elitist if you live near the destination. Not elitist if you go to less posh destinations, either. |
SHe must've bought them in the fall. They are cheaper now. |
| i paid a $140 for a pass to 7 PA resorts. I can visit each on 3 times during this season. I rented skis at Sun and Ski for $150 I believe. Umm $300 for the season is not elitist, imo |
really? 159 CM? where? |
You forget to read. |

I live in CA & view it as such.
Just like I consider horse polo elitist. So elitist (for me!) that I likely am not even using the correct term. Lol. |
This boggles my mind. $300 for 1 person per season is so much money for a lot of people. Growing up, my parents went from lower middle class to middle class. It took 2-3 years of holidays to gather up the gear to ski (not the skis themselves, that was for rich people). |
