A coworker said this to me today. Is this a common perception?
|
|
Yep. It’s expensive to get equipment, lessons, and the best destinations are pricey.
Depends on where you live though. Not elitist if you’re in CO |
| That's become the blanket lazy response for anything you can't afford. |
| When I lived in Vermont, it was definitely not elitist. It was something just about everyone did. In DC, it’s a bit more selective because it’s harder to do and you have to work harder to go regularly. |
|
Is horseback riding elitist?
Golf? Tennis? Sailing? Same thing. |
|
If it is, there sure are a lot of elitists in the US given the crowd sizes at the ski lifts.
It is an expensive activity, but so is having a new iphone (I don't have one of those). |
| Is Africa elitist? Cause it's expensive to get there. |
Yep. But even more so if you live in Missouri and take up Carrie an sailing. It’s much to do than say someone who lives in Annapolis. It’s still expensive though. |
Everyone is renting them now. |
? you can rent an iphone? |
They’re basically paying for the phone with their bill over 2 years. So not renting, leasing to own? Sorry. Long day. |

My brother lives in Maine. Skiing is the after school activity. The mountain is one of the school bus stops. At the mountain, the kids receive a snack and homework help. And then they go skiing with their friends for the afternoon. It costs $80 per child for Jan-March. Their local mountain is not Sugarbush. They laugh at me when I talk about skiing there. It’s expensive and crowded. They like their local mountain more.
Skiing can be expensive but it doesn’t have to be. |
Maybe. Show jumping - heck yes. backyard nag out in the sticks - heck no. |
My cousins and DH all grew up just like this and it wasn’t because they were elite— quite the opposite actually. Of course, DH’s knees are now paying the price for all of that skiing but he still loves it. I prefer cross-country but I grew up doing that more so I’m more comfortable with it than down-hill. |
I need to move. |
