Will MU make it past this spring?

Hopefully we can get to a point where it isn't "pay to play" system and we can truly see our country improve in soccer.

The US is one of the only countries where soccer is a rich persons game and not everyones game

SO if Metro folds, as many of you seem to be hoping for, exactly what is the direct benefit to the other ECNL or DA clubs? How can a club, with no talent, as many of you imply help concentrate talent within the elite soccer clubs when they don't have elite talent to begin with?

If I am representative of people, then what people want is fewer “elite” clubs in the area. Don’t care if it’s MU or Loudoun or BRYC or whoever that folds. It’s not that MU doesn’t have players who can compete at the high levels. They certainly have a few. What I want to see is that the local teams that have a majority of players who should be competing at the high levels, instead of teams with 2-3 great players and a bunch of OK or mediocre players. Someone mentioned the MU 15s beating the Arlington 15s — they did, and the goal-scorer was the 07 star MU player who also plays with the MU 16s, and the MU 14s, when those teams are playing games against tougher opponents. Armour does the same thing with its star player(s), and I think FCV does too. What I want to see is a smaller set of “elite” clubs, maybe four total, with more than one star player per team. Or per club.

I'm not out for MU as much as I am for US Soccer's heavy handed implementation of GDA which is making things worse for everyone. The ultimate objective of GDA should be to develop NT players. To do that effectively today, the league should become smaller and be regionalized around US Soccer operated training centers. Cut down to the top 500 girls in the country and let them play against each other in a US Soccer funded or partially funded system. This country is too big to have GDA and ECNL at the same level and best support the development of YNT caliber players.

The bottom line is that US Soccer made the decision that the DC area should support about 60 players in their programming per age group. That’s 3 DA teams. This past year was the time to eliminate one with Spirit departing the youth game. That did not happen and instead a new club formed. So clearly whether it’s MU or another club DA will have 3 area DA teams. US Soccer does not care how many ECNL programs exist, they are going after a different player that wants year round programming and is willing to choose that over HS Soccer. If MU was to go away, which won’t happen, the majority of those players want DA programming. There are too many talented MU players for FCV and Arlington so another DA club will form. The players are not going to ECNL. Get over it.

This is not hard. Follow their actions and words. They have stated what they want in many interviews over the past two years. Watch who gets selected for camps and YNTs. It is not even debatable anymore.

You mean no ECNL call ups anymore?

Well duh. When you play in a league that compresses 20 league games into one season, let’s their players be trained by a HS coach for three months while only playing a few showcases US Soccer isn’t interested in a player who willingly makes that choice.

Adding their own league is casting a wider net than they had previously. But, in their eyes, if you are playing in ECNL you have made the decision that YNT is not for you. They don't want part-time soccer players as talented as some may be they lack the commitment in US Soccer's eyes to bother with.

US Soccer has determined that they are not interested in players who wish to be trained 3 months out of a ten month season by a High School coach. Them's the breaks.

I'm fully in support of the 07. She is very talented and will go far. That said, playing 90 minutes doesn't mean anything. MU is often playing PT players 90 minutes....

Then you've never seen her play, or only seen instagram posts that stop short of horrible passes, or believe the hype, such as nutmegassits more like lost possession turning into defender and lucked out with someone making the run, even though she shoots from fruther then she can make it constantly dropping the ball directly in front of goalies for easy saves. I admit she is tactically a solid player, as far as physically ability, should probably be playing 07 or 06 at the highest, 16 goal? I personally prefer my goals with some skills not easy shot on open net, if your going to reference that goal. She carries the ball to long most times, trying to get a goal for mom's highlight reel wasting possession constantly.
