The ECNL only allowed two teams in NOVA 4 years ago. They have now doubled that to four. In fact, there are more ECNLs than the DAs in NOVA. That's the bigger problem.
LOL, ECNL went from 2 to 4, and DA went from 0 to 3. Which one is a bigger problem? The context of this thread is MU, and they are the only newcomer. Last one in, first one out.
I'm trying to follow the logic here and what it is that people want. On the one hand Metro is so bad that they cant compete at teh DA level. This would imply that they lack the talent to compete. And then in the same breath, Metro is the main cause of talent dilution among the DA and ECNL clubs in NOVA. SO if Metro folds, as many of you seem to be hoping for, exactly what is the direct benefit to the other ECNL or DA clubs? How can a club, with no talent, as many of you imply help concentrate talent within the elite soccer clubs when they don't have elite talent to begin with?
If I am representative of people, then what people want is fewer “elite” clubs in the area. Don’t care if it’s MU or Loudoun or BRYC or whoever that folds. It’s not that MU doesn’t have players who can compete at the high levels. They certainly have a few. What I want to see is that the local teams that have a majority of players who should be competing at the high levels, instead of teams with 2-3 great players and a bunch of OK or mediocre players. Someone mentioned the MU 15s beating the Arlington 15s — they did, and the goal-scorer was the 07 star MU player who also plays with the MU 16s, and the MU 14s, when those teams are playing games against tougher opponents. Armour does the same thing with its star player(s), and I think FCV does too. What I want to see is a smaller set of “elite” clubs, maybe four total, with more than one star player per team. Or per club.
I'm not out for MU as much as I am for US Soccer's heavy handed implementation of GDA which is making things worse for everyone. The ultimate objective of GDA should be to develop NT players. To do that effectively today, the league should become smaller and be regionalized around US Soccer operated training centers. Cut down to the top 500 girls in the country and let them play against each other in a US Soccer funded or partially funded system. This country is too big to have GDA and ECNL at the same level and best support the development of YNT caliber players.
In other words, you want ODP back. Well ECNL killed ODP not US Soccer.
