The girl admitted she made it up and lied to everybody so what crime was committed by the folks who believed her?

The 12 year old is not the one who put this out there on the news. She talked to her good family friend the reporter but ultimately the reporter is the one responsible for blasting her face and her story all over the nation if not all over the world.

And there’s irrefutable proof the reporter knew it was a lie? What evidence/testimony confirms this?

Please don't play dumb.

Previous PP said the reporter was RESPONSIBLE for it, and she is. It's her job to ensure she reports facts, not falsehoods.

Whose playing dumb? What’s the proof? Since when is an anonymous previous posters’ supposition sufficient to bring about an indictment?

If the network found it newsworthy, someone else, more objective, should have been assigned to report on it.

This. I can also see reporting that the school and police are investigating a racially tinged incident reported by a little girl who alleges students cut off her dreadlocks. Then, reporting on the results of the investigation. If she didn't lie it's a story, if she did lie it's a story. But THIS reporter shouldn't have covered it.

Agreed.

That channel is a joke.

Have you ever heard of Tawana Brawley? Look up that name and see what you find and then rethink the above.

I KNOW y'all not trying to open up a discussion about all the cases in which a purported victim of an assault lied about the circumstances or falsely accused someone.
And I KNOW y'all not trying to divvy it up along racial lines. Please tell me you are Not That Friggin Stupid to open this can of worms.
Cause if you got any common sense whatsoever you would KNOW damn well that it's waaaaaaaaaaaay more white folks throughout history who have falsely accused black people of crimes than black folks.
Hell, for damn near a century from the end of the Civil War all the way up to the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement it was common knowledge that thousands of innocent black men were lynched or thrown in jail based off of the straight up LIES of white people.
Let's not go there...please. Let's not make this a pissing contest. Let's stick with this story because if you try to go there and divvy up the instances of false allegations along racial lines you are not going to like the harsh reality of those results.

Move on people.

Now instead of mea culpa and a suspension of Mikea, seem to be following Trump's playbook of cover up, blame others, and wait for it to blow over.

Any update, OP or others?

Has WUSA apologized and disciplined the reporter?

We can't do anything about what happened "throughout history." We CAN do something about things that are happening currently.

I think that WUSA is in active CYA mode and concerned about potential lawsuits. They could be scrambling behind the scenes right now trying to work out settlements for all we know.

I wouldn't trust that station to do an accurate traffic report.

This little girl and the 3 boys she accused have been alive on this planet for 12 years. This is not about historical injustice. This is about a kid wanting approval from the adults that she admired and looked up to. Just think how much that child must have looked up to Mikea and how much Mikea's sympathy and approval would have meant to that kid. THAT is what this whole thing is all about.

At the expense of 3 innocent boys lives!!! The fact that they were willing to DESTROY three children's lives so they could "sympathy and approval" is what this is about!

I wholeheartedly agree. Hence my reprimand of the doofus who wanted to start bringing up old shit like Tawana Brawley.

Remember, too, that they risked that this story could backfire on this girl, too. This kid was going to be found out and disciplined by the school and possibly the authorities. But her punishment would never have involved this brutally public humiliation. She's 12!

What? They LIED in order to destroy innocent lives and you're worried about HER "brutal humiliation?"
